What color, by brand, would you use for U.S. armor in Iraq today? I tend to use Tamiya acrylic for spraying, but would use others if more accurate. I'm planning to do an M1A1 with mine plow.

I'm planning my first attempt at using all the detail stuff, PE and resin engine. Any suggestions, experiences to relate?

If I am not mistaken the best color match in Tamiya acrylics would be XF-60 Dark Yellow. However, I find that Model Master Acryl USA/USMC Gulf Sand is best for American armor and they also have British Gulf Armor/Lt. Stone. I've used both and they look spot on!

Testors makes an acyylic, US Gulf Armor, I haven't used it but it looks right.
As far as Tamiya, you could mix some buff, white and desert yellow (XF-59) to the right shades. I haven't tried that so that may not be the best advice.

I've seen two posts today regarding paint color.
Ok - here is a question - Do you think paint companies really create a new mix of paint or do they rebottle and repackage the same old colors.

Is the Gulf Yellow the same as Dark Yellow????

Just conversation fodder.....

Scott:
I dunno on either of your questions, I'll have to take a look tonight. But I havne't found a similar color in any of Testors other paints. "Sand" may be the closest and that looks a little light In my brain anyway).

Modern US armor is best painted with Testors Model Master Modern Desert Sand (#1963) FS 33722.

I would have to go with the model master line. Gulf Sand seems to make sense to me.
