Hi guys,
Some time ago I bought a Badger WHIRLWIND II MODEL 80-2 compressor for my airbrush. Badger says this: Maximum running pressure Approx. 28 PSI. (1.93 bar) CSA Approved. My question relates to the pressure. As far as I read, the optimum pressure should be ~40 PSI. Mine is 28 How bad is this? How will this affect painting my models?

I spray at 1 to 2 atm (so far a lot low then 40 psi). Anyway pressure does depend on the airbrush and its specific regulation, nozzle, type of coloro and dilution, etc. Try on a sheet of paper with the pressures in the range I've indicated and see where you get the best results.

scoccia,
So basically, I should have no problems at 28 PSI? What is the max air pressure for your compressor? My airbrush is a badger as well, single action, no gravity feed, a 200 model, I don't have it here with me.

8 atm (don't ask me how many psi cuase the conversion is not linear). I don't know your compressor, but if it's max pressure is 1.9 atm is more than fine with roughly everything but thick primer.

Most airbrushes maxout at 2.5 bar. The running average is around 1.8 bar. Alot depends on how you prepare your paint. It should be like the consistency of milk when you swirl it around the cup.
Pressure is really a misinterpreted concept since it doesn't give you capacity. An average airbrush needs about 20 liters of air/minute to be able to use the pressure of 1.8 bar...

I use the Badger 150 and regularly shoot at 16 PSI with Badger's Millionaire silent air compressor - you shouldn't have any performance problems.

I'd say you'd be all set at 28 psi. I generally run mine at 25-30 psi.

Thanks a lot guys for your help. I was really worried that I bought a useless compressor. I'll just have to start exercise using it.
