I'm planning to build a Leo 1 and an AMX-30 from the early - mid 70's. Wondering what color they were. This is pre-3 color Nato

I'm fairly sure they would both be in their national variety of Olive Drab. The german variant was a bit more yellowish then the french variant.

German colors from 1908 to the present can be tracked on this website, which provides color matches to hobby paint lines.

The color for Bundeswehr armor is RAL 6014 Gelboliv, which they match to Humbrol 75. I don't have a specific match for French olive.

anybody have an idea on what the closest Model Masters enamel paint will match what I am looking for?

I beat myself senseless for an eternity trying to find out this info for my 1A2. As noted above, RAL 6014 is the colour, matched to Hu75. A search through various paint match sites showed IJN Green is a good match. I plan on giving mine a filter wash of a yellowy-green mix before gloss coating for decals, as the pics I have seen show a much more olivey green rather than bronzey green
