It’s an interesting / unusual looking vehicle and the kit is on sale – so if it’s any good I might have to add it to my stash.

Thanks,
Noah

It is a pretty good kit. It goes together fairly well and looks good when done. It is pretty much accurate. I recommend it. I forget who, but some company does a resin interior set for it too. It might have been Warriors.

It's a late 90's era DML kit, better than the BMP's and first T72, but not a new tech, new tool DML Smart or Premuim kit by any means.
The guns are pretty basic and the shell ejector chutes are molded as solid.

Warriors makes a really nice interior, but I have not tried to fit it in place yet.

This might have gotten more looks if in the Soviet/ Russian Forum...

As stated, a good kit. It is a 1993 or so model, same Generation as the SCUD-B kit. So it is solid but simple.

It needs photo-etch and a little work to make it nice. Hollow out the shell ejection chutes, add the water cooling lines, and consult references for a few other details and you will have a nice build.

I have two of them. (one still in the box) The other one is almost done. The kit has fit problems and the track links all have ejector pin marks on them. The Warrior detail set needs some work to make it fit, but it looks good when completed. The problem with putting an interrior in it, is that the two turret hatches have ejector pin marks on the inside of the hatches, that are very hard to fix. The detail set does not include parts for the inside of the drivers hatch, so you have to scratch build that also. No photo-etch with the kit, so you need to get that. Some work on the ejector chutes and some cooling lines on the guns make a big improvement. If you type ZSU-23 into Google, you will find some good pictures.

It's an all right kit. I've built one, a couple of years ago. It does have a few fit problems, so beware! Nothing too bad, though. It has individual link tracks, which I hate with a passion! However, on the plus side, it comes with a nice set of decals, with markings not just for the Soviet Shilka but for several other operators ( NVA, PAVN, Iraq, Hungary and Lebanon's Sunni al-Mourabitoun militia, I think ). I seem to recall hearing somewhere that the Shilka is out of production, so if you want this kit you should probably pick one up now.

This is funny, I would NEVER actively look at a kit/subject like this but had one in my hands at the LHS today, looked interesting. With all the stuff they bash into submission, you would think they would hit up some of the Soviet stuff with the premium retool versions as they have a lot of good base kits of ignored subjects. Instead they focus on paper panzers....
