Hello guys

I have been biten by the humvee bug (again) and what to do a humvee used by the recon Marines in the invasion phase of OIF1, like in the book "generation kill".

from what the book states they were open cab humvees with no windscreens and doors and had a .50cal mounted in the rear.

Any pics of these humvees would be great.

I too am fascinated by these vehicles, both British and US. There are so many AM things for HMMWV's these days, you certainly have lots to choose from.
Here are some links.

Lovely unique build by Jirka Skarka

Frenchy those pics were spot on the money.

Now I just need to find enough gear to load up the humvee till the rear axle drags on the ground!

G'day. mate. I am only new to modelling myself and after reading Generation Kill myself I attempted to build a recon hummer myself. If you email me at [email protected] I will email you photos of my attempt and maybe some build tips.
Cheers

I think there would a lot of interest in your build and tips here on the forum, I know I'd love to see your effort! Why not post them?
What did you think of the book Generation Kill, it seem to have influence a few builds.

That was a hell of a book. Motivated me to go into LAV crew... not build or ever want to drive a HUMMVEE!!!

Generation Kill is a great book, but I think at many points it is fairly unprofessional and adds to the connotation that Marines are a bunch of animals especially the Force Recon guys.

LT Fick actually wrote his own follow-on book to Generation Kill that, in my opinion, is better than Generation Kill. GK follows more with the men in the platoon becasue that was primarily who the author was with. One Bullet Away, focuses on Fick's perspective. If you read carefully, it gives an officer's viewpoint, but he is still plenty honest and open about what he experienced.

BTW, those humvees are simple canvas top M998A1s, and A2s.

Jeff
Both these books are now on my Christmas wish list, thanks for the reviews.
On Jirka's build he has a small box in front of the driver, is that a compass housing? I've asked before but I don't expect anyone has a better photo of this vehicle and/or its components?
Thanks
Bill

G'day Bill
I did try to post pics of my recon humvee and a base that I have been working on for my AFV Club Stryker however however they did not seem to post. I am only new to this computer thingy and am still learning. As soon as I figure it out I will be regularly posting pics of me effort. Generation Kill was an interesting read to say the least.
Cheers Tony

When you post a message each window has a green bar at the bottom with a camera icon and a label called image help.. Click on that for help with your images. You can make an account with Photo Bucket as well, it is free and very simple to use, these steps will help with your image posting. I look forward to your images.
