I am starting a new diorama tonight! What I am building is one of those white stucco Soviet Farmhouses with the thatched roof and I am wondering if any of you folks have experience in making a thatch roof or have any links to point me too.
Thanks

You could take a look at this site in Russia. Some good stuff on there by modellers by the way.
http://en.diorama.ru/library/
and on this site we have a nice example which is WIP

I think also some people recommend using cheap or old large domestic paint brushes, cutting off the bristles to use.
Good luck

Hi
I may be talking complete rubbish but it seems the big difference to thatched roofs in Russia compared to say here in the UK is that they tend to be layered with defined "ridges" of thatch where as ours are smooth apart from the ridge detail. They also don't seem to "groom" the thatch in the way we do, more rough and ready.
I put this down to their expectation of snow. In ridges the snow would settle in layers and may fall off in small sections, where as here the snow would settle in one big sheet and would have a tendency to come down the same way. Not good if you are standing nearby !!! That's my theory anyway.....could be complete nonsense.
