This hopefully will be the extent of the area the church, monastery and courtyard will cover, l.o.l.
There will be another balcony - walkway above the two left side walkways already shown. The back righthand side dogleg, one story piece will be the kitchens, small inner courtyard and passageway to the monastery, [ long right side two story " barracks " looking structure. Lots more to do and I will probably add alot more this and that as I build along, l.o.l.
So far the entrance is to be on the front of the tall left hand structure taht will also have the steeple and bells. I may want to place the entrance on the same structure but on the right hand side of it, facing the courtyard. Then having two stained glass windows on the frontface where the first entrance proposal was.
The courtyard fountain is an older Jaguar offering and the figure is for size ref. only.
Hopefully after the games [ and a few Bacardi Gold and eggnogs, with nutmeg ] today I'll have alot more basic structure completed for a better overall picture.
Thanks for looking - Cheyenne

Holy Cow BatMan - that's BIG.

Nice layout so far, knowing how you work and the quality you uphold this will be quite a show piece.

William thanks, if by footprint you mean location, country, size etc., then it's an Italian church .........................in Italy, .................... redundancy is another hobby of mine, l.o.l.
Sorry just kidding ........ couldn't resist. It sits on a 3' x 4' piece of 3/4 ply right now and looks like that will be the base. German or Allied occupied will be determined later. Right now I'm leaning Allied.
Scott thanks. Here's what I meant about placing the entrance, what do you think. I'm liking the courtyard entrance, though it dosen't really follow specs. on how churches were built long ago, entrance facing east, choir, apse, rectory, etc. all in given locations. The apse must be behind the alter to the right/left of the choir etc., after research very involved and interesting.

Entrance type #1 Front of church facing out from steeple/belfry structure [ windows to be recessed, entranceway to be built out ]

Type #2 entrance facing courtyard with windows in previous entrance location.

Entrance detail.

And some real - ref. pic. Italian churches. The last pic. is in Chec. built by Italians when the ruled that portion of Checkoslovkia [ sp ? - sorry ], long ago.
The first pic. is the stone/block/brick work I'm going for.

Just gotta love the older work mixed in with the newer additions on this pic. - also something I'd like to incorporate into the build.

Oh btw who do you think will win Pats/Colts I took Colts getting 5 points. I have a feeling the Pats are going to win by 10 points, but everyone is going that way so maybe I can one - up my pics on the sheet, as an upset. Besides I like the Colts and Manning more than the Pats.

2nd set up is really fabolous.

I can see a forward element of a battle group driving into a courtyard where the nuns (or priests) are treating the wounded...

but that is just me thinking...

great work so far.

I love the double windows (2nd layout). To me it pulls weight to the front end and balances the openness of the courtyard, where the 1st one 'intrudes' on the courtyard a bit.
Now if the windows will get recessed then it will even out a bit and may be ok (to my eye).

How was your eggnog?

Crikey, she a bigg'n! Another liquor-fuelled masterpiece Glenn
I reckon Pat has a good eye for a finished diorama scene here. The fountain can be the focal point fo' sho'...
How rough are the walls to be finished?

Hi Glenn,
How are you?

Everything is looking good here!
One question:
Is your mattboard always flat or sometimes warped? I know that Bob Letterman used normal cardboard on the backside of the mattboard to get it well set and flat after a night of drying under heavy weight.
You dont't seem to have those problems? I stopped using mattboard because of that.

Cheers
Claude

looking good Cheyenne

What would really set it of is if it was raised up as if near to a cliff with a road leading up to it it would give it a very Mediterranean feel. The use of tree bark would create the effect of height.

I look forward to seeing this progress

cheers

Oï Glenn -sorry I'm late for the usual congratulations. Indeed you seem on for a great start, but weren't you supposed to *paint* your Biergarten before starting that new one
Anyway, yes that's an amazing project that you promise us, the plan looks good so far and I will be sure to follow your build -hey, now you're alsmost in retirement, I will be curious to see the amount of time it will take you to complete that one!

Guys thanks alot !!!!

Pat - yeah he gets around, he's my measuring dude for height, clearances and such.

Goodhunting - yeah I'm with the entrance into the courtyard myself - already in the works.

Pertos - that's 3/16th foamboard - artists board ?

Scott - second scenario is already cut in and done.

Brad - thanks dude - do some of my best thinking and planning with a brew or two !!!!

Claude - I'm doing just great my friend, I hope you are as well !!! Yeah the foamboard does warp. When I buy it though I lay it flat and keep reference mags. and books on it and it seems to keep it flat enough. If I use a piece that's slightly warped I glue the shape, then use heavy books and such to keep them square while the glue dries.

Keith - you read my mind craggy hillside and on the ocean. I've also decided to war damage a few bits - but just a small cal. shell hit or two. The front of the monastrey will be hit and opened up some to expose a library - sitting area.

Jean - what's up buddy how's the family ? Beergarden needs just a little odds and ends and it's done !!!! Then I've got the mill to do, and yes the freighter will get alot of attention once I'm retired [ 11 days to go !!!!!! ]
I can't wait to get up every morning and go into the studio and work on my stuff !!!!!

Thanks again guys, much more to follow, I think this retirement thing is just what I need !!!!!!

Hey mate,
Normally I am just jealous of the amazing work you seem to turn out none stop, now I find out you are retiring in 11 days. I still have that many years. Never mind as long as you don't post pictures of your 24 year old Swedish bikini model wife draped om the front of your Bentley outside your mansion I will settle for the fact you deserve your retirement and have worked hard to achieve that standard of building.
Enjoy your retirement, hey take a sicky for the next week.
Cheers
