I’ve wanted to add a ZSU-23 to my stash for a while – but I’m aware Dragon offer two different versions of that vehicle.
Can somebody please explain to me the difference between their ZSU-23-4 and ZSU-23-4V1 kits? Due to my novice eye, I can’t really discern any difference between the two – externally at least.
Is this a simple case of one kit being newer or retooled? Does one kit offer parts that the other doesn’t? I know that’s the case with Dragon’s MLRS and MLRS NATO kits.
Thanks in advance – any an all information will be greatly appreciated,
Noah

Hi Noah,
yes there are some external changes but really hard to see. Mainly, the differences are gathered on the turret. Can't tell more, maybe Jacques or another Russian stuff guru will jump in !

Hi,
the ZSU-23-4 M (DML kit #3518) differs in several aspects from the former ZSU-23-4 V1 (Kit #3521):
-)The gun mount was covered on top by a steel plate
-)a box-like vent-cover was added on the turrets right/back sector
-)a third access-hatch was added on the left side of the chassis
-) afaik a further reinforcement strip was added on the turrets left side
All in all not very much changed outside. The step between ZSU-23-4 V and ZSU-23-4 V1 is much bigger as far as the overall appearance is concerned.

Funny how these old corpses of threads sometimes get resurrected out of the blue.
Does anyone check the dates?

If the information is of use that is all that matters, even if the original person who asked the question no longer visits.

Even if he no longer visits, the discussion will help. I was actually trying to find the difference in the three 1:72/6 Armo and the 1 Cromwell kits of the ZSU-23-4, and it was very hard to tell the difference between the kits and versions, I believe one was a V1. From what I've seen, the original version seems to have a round plate radar, and some of the other versions have a less rounded heel shaped radar on the turret...not sure if the kit has taken this into account, but that's the best info i could come up with. Thanks for the info!

The ZSU 23-4 hull was a beast to assemble....alot of putty and gaps underneath the sponsons. Pretty nice detail for a kit that old.
It's now a shelf queen since the little lifting hooks broke off and the gun mount is in-complete.
Just some food for thought....
