Just so everyone knows. I am trying to find the time needed to do the upgrade to a dedicated server. The money for it is all there, thanks mostly to those who made kind donations for this upgrade, as well as our advertising supporters. The "new month" date for the Interland account we are using now is fast approaching (I think it's the tenth of the month) and once again I doubt I will have time to do the upgrade in the 3 days or so that is left. Of course.... I could take the site offline in the interim. Nah...I didn't think you would like the site down for up to a week. Luckily Interland has lowered their rates so I can save a bit on this months bill (rant: I should have saved on last months but they have the silly policy that you HAVE TO CALL THEM to tell them you'd like to change to the lower priced plan!).

So...upgrade to this server is still the plan:

Intel Pentium 4
1.6 Ghz Processor

Memory
• 1 GB RAM

Main Hard Drive
• 40 GB Hard Drive

Second Hard Drive
• 40 GB Hard Drive

Bandwidth
• 300GB per month

Hopefully it will live up to ALL of our expectations.

Cheers,
Jim

Not sure if this is a silly question or not, but, with hard drives as cheap as they are now. Would it be an idea to look into larger hard drives? Just throwing my 2 cents out there.

2x40Gb should do the trick. Larger HD's often slows things down too...

I'm happy with the new configuration. I'll do a new donation, maybe we can add a 3.5" floppy drive too #:-)

Ben,
Not silly at all. Actually we will have (2) seperate HDs at 40GB each. Keep in mind this site currently has only 1GB of capacity and probably 30% of that is used for system-type files.

We can always upgrade the drive later if need be. I am not buying a server, just having one custom configured.

Jim
I know (I've have seen you do your magic) that are diligently working on everything for this site. Don't take my questions of server performance as criticism. Far from it, this site has fantastic from day 1.

If there is ever anything you need I don't feel out of place saying that there are over 2300 people willing to pitch in and help. You just say the word.
