(Call that a big gun?)
A hot day in late August 1942 on the side of a hard packed road. While the other members of his crew attend to the necessities of life, this driver shares a laugh with passing Tiger I and PzIV crews.
Presenting the Trumpeter 1:72 12.8cm Selbstfahrlafette auf VK3001(H) "Sturer Emil" which has taken a little while to build and base. This is the first open topped AFV I have built and gave me the full experience of fun, joy and sheer bloody frustration.
I used a multitiude of newly learned techniques to finish this "stubborn Emil" Some of which worked, sort of worked and abjectly failed. Still, practice makes perfect for these armour builds and I would not want it any other way.
The Emil was painted in Vallejo acrylics, treated to lighter dry brushing shades and a turps/pastel wash to reflect a dusty journey.
The base was done using Celluclay (thanks Karl!) and I used Academy and resin accessories next to a Presier figure. Another first, painting a 1:72 figure which was not a pilot (and not many of those either as I rarely add them to aircraft models). I tried to reflect a dusty, packed earth roadside.
So here it is. The images are pretty average (flash washed), shot on my workbench, so expect better images soon. The differences can be seen as the first image of the base was taken without a flash.
Comments as usual are most welcome.

cheers
Mike
