Hi all,
I have 2 questions about the weapon station which is used for .50cal machineguns on Dutch 6x6 Patria XA-188 armoured patrol vehicles. I don't have really good pics but I found these on the internet:
Question 1
When I compare this weapon station to other RCSW's (see pics below) I find it strange that the other clearly have aim/sight equipment, while the one on the Patria doesn't seem to have any. There are three things easily to see:
- .50cal
- smoke launchers
- on most of the pictures, also some sort of spotlight (?)
Still I all the vehicle specs I can find about the Patria: the weapon can be controlled from inside the vehicle. So the mount should be a RWCS. How is this possible? Is the weapon station on the Patria indeed a remote controlled one? Where is the aim equipment to control the weapon from inside the vehicle?
RCWS from Rafael. Note the aim/sight/observation equipment, this is what I miss on the Dutch vehicle!
RCWS on a Dutch Fennek in Afghanistan, love this pic, also clearly visible is the aim camera.
Question 2
Could somebody identify the Patria weapon station, and does somebody have reference materials like pics, drawings etc.
This is all for a scratch project....
Hope you guys & girls can help me with this!
Thanks in advance,
Martin

The sight on the .5 weapon station on the Dutch Patrias are located under the cradle.
If you look closely on the first image you'll see a rounded housing under the mount, just forward of the hatch.
On each side of the mount there is a periscope, looking at 11 o'clock and 1.
Looks like a simple day sight.
You can also see the wires and cables running down inside the vehicle on the left part of the mount.

Thanks for the reply! I thought the periscope was just for observation, not for aiming. And if you look at the equipment on other RCWS, they're much larger/probably more advanced....
Do you also know if this mount is used on other (well known) vehicles. I need some reference to scratch it. I have drawings of the Patria but not with this weapon station.
Can it be found on modern vehicle scale models?
Thanks again,
Martin

Sorry, I have no info.
What I wrote in my last post was just my observations from looking at the images.

Sorry for changing the topic slightly but are you building a 6x6 patria & if so are you building it from scratch??
Its just im starting to build an Irish 6x6 SISU from the lebanon during the 90's, Ive operated with the sisu & have a few photo's at hand but if there was a rare kit in production somewhere or a reference for exact dimensions, id really appreciate it,thanks
