Hi all,
I have the Revell Leo 2A4 that I will built as an 8th batch vehicule (thanks to all of you for the ressources) by combining parts of HB Leo 2A5 with a Leo 2A4.
Now, I want your opinion on the subject!
I could get a HB Leo 2A4 for the project and maybe ease the workload, or I could use my Revell Leo 2A4.
What differences do they have? Which one is superior in details, ease of assembly?
Thanks all for your time,
Chris

The Hobby Boss kit is an 8th batch vehicle as the welded turret side door is completely removed.
The good points of the Hobby Boss kit are:
- PE fret for engine intake screens and some other smaller details
- main gun elevates
- turret rear is completely detailed unlike the Revell/Italeri kits with the 'tarp'
The bad points
- one part of the engine deck lifting mechanism is molded as part of the engine deck. It's the rectangle with ribs that other kits including Tamiya have as a separate part
- simplistic TC sight head
- two hatches excluded from hull rear. They are just to the inside of the exhaust ports.
I think you could do it with just the Hobby Boss kit.

Well, Paul pointed the technical details, just want to add that, in my opinion, the Hobbyboss it´s much easier to assemble than the Revell/Italeri kit. A nice looking model can be built, and its much cheaper.
Just built one Hobbyboss mostly OOB, it doesn´t look too bad I think....
Cheers

I'm STILL in the process of building my Hobbyboss Str122 though I've stalled a little due to being busy. It's a cracking kit in my opinion for the money and if they are all like this then I'd advise going for Hobbyboss. The glitches with the kit have been pointed out here or in my build thread. Anyway it's here if you want a look.

The Revell kit needs a few touch ups but I find it pretty good. Here is a pic of my Norwegian Leo built with the Revell kit as base.

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys, I greatly appreciate them!
Klaus: Nice build and thanks for your input. I will probably go the HB way as I will need two kits to build my 8th batch vehicule as some upgrades comes directly from the A5A6 series (sideskirts and L44 gun) and it will be easier to use 2 HB kits than trying to fit the newer HB to the older Revell kit (I think!).
Max: Damn you!!! With your build, I want an Strv 122 now!!! Great job and like you, I'm not a rivet counter but I will enhance any kit if it's in my capabilities and it doesn't require too much surgery!! I really like Swedish vehicules and I'm in the process of finishing an Strv 103B and I have a C version as well that I'll do with the fence on the front. The camo on Swedish vehicules are just astonishing!
Erik: Good job on your Leo and thanks for your input. Too bad there were no Leo's from your country when I was in Afghanistan, it would have made a great photo safari!
Cheers and in the meantime, I'll try to take some pics of my 103B build...

What are the differences between the Danish A5DK, the A6 and the A6EX HobbyBoss Leopards?
I know there is noticible visual differences between the STRV and the IIA4, but was wondering about the above mentioned variants.
Thanks

AFAIK, the 2A5 DK has the additional nose armor, revised rear bins, a 'white beam' emitter(?) and I think sometimes the APU.
The 2A6 has the longer barrel gun than the 2A5 and the 2A6EX(port) has the longer barreled gun, nose armor and revised hull top like Strv 122.
Paul

Paul, were you speaking to the HB kit differences in addition to the prototype differences?
Thanks

Just pointing out the differences on the production vehicles. I haven't seen the Hobby Boss kit for these vehicles.

The 2A6EX also has a higher turret roof with different sensors and hatches, as on the Strv 122; and it has different turret stowage bins / air-conditioning units again, which are closest to the Greek (2Hel) fit, I think.
Hobby Boss's instructions on the uprated versions are a bit confusing - at least one kit is effectively trying to get you to build another one instead. Check references! But not all is lost if there appears to be an error. For instance, one of them (can't recall which off the top of my head) would have you use the wrong panel (for an APU) on the right side of the hull. Happily, the right panel is lurking among the wealth of unused parts on one of the other sprues.

I just ordered all of the HB Leopards
Hmmmmmm......sounds like I may need a "build version" matrix to get things right as I am light on definative Leopold referece material.....
Anyone with all the HB kits and has the "which part(s) are to be used with which version(s)" down pat.......your input / help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Please PM if so.
