Hi Malcolm,

Nice work on the 'Fox'. Are you going to fit the .50cal, it's shown in the pic I have. Only thought would be the quirky British antenna: I think it shiould be on the rear RH mount as you look from the back. Could be wrong but on the other British Shermans I've seen it's on the opposite side.

Goog job on the ranging decals, looks the business.

Cheers

Al

very nice work on the turret and the overall project. i just have one question why did the brits put the degree measurements on the outside like that, i have seen it done before on other british armor as well, just could never for the like of me figure out why ?

I believe that the degree markings were done so that the tank could point at (and engage) a target, while a nearby observer could use the markings to establish a bearing for calling in indirect fire support. Being Royal Marines, this usually meant BIG artillery. As in battleship... "Hello, Warspite, a little help here?" BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM!! "Thanks ever so, old boy..."

Hi William + Greg,

you are correct about the graduations these along with the centours were meant to fire direct support from the landing craft, but the plans were changed and these vehicles ended up going ashore

cheers,
malc.

This Sherman has probably disambarked from a LST landingship and had to wade to the shore.
What i am trying to say is that this tank should have the lower part of a wadingtrunk attached to his rear end.
It's just an observation?
I must say that i really love this build.
I am thinking to make this build myself with the shermans from Tasca !
( When i have the money. )

Happy building,

Frank

Hi Frank,
the photo in the book is dated 13 july, and without any of the wading gear, yes that would make a good looking model, but Im trying to make it look like the tvehicle in the photo, which is why I have added a kit bag, and jerry can to the front of the vehicle, as this is what is in the photo, I will be using a little bit of artistic licence, and put some stowage on the rear decks, other than that, its straight out of the WWII photos.

cheers mate,

Really nice job, You're far ahead of me with this FOX project
Only a little observation: as I see the pics of FOX, the perforated metal strip at the lower edge of the hull was removed (as on some early british Mk. V's). But I'm not sure
What kind of Zaloga book is it?

All the bests,

Hi Pete,
I have photos of british shermys with them on and off, so with a bit of speculation I drilled the holes along the bottom, the only photo I have is from the front, the coloured drawing is from the side which shows no holes, so its pure speculation on my part

the book is called The British Sherman, its one of the new Concord series by Steve Zalogia, exellent book if your into British Shermans.

Hi Malcolm!

I checked the D-Day tank pic's and I found waterproofing material on Shermans several other places too
It seems there are traces around the hull machine gun cover, the ventillator cover, all panel lines of the engine deck, around the places of the wading trunks... ahh, I hope that's all
It was some kind of black, tacky rubber paste, and later (after the canvas covers were removed) these areas were soiled with dust stronger than around.

BRGDS,
Peter

Yep, your right, all the rest of the waterproofing will be added after basic painting is done, the reason why the waterproofing around the mantlet was added now was because of the fun with the decals.
Im using the good reference photos in the steve zalogia book about modelling the 75 mm sherman.

cheers mate,

Hi Malcolm,

If you're looking to add some of the water-proofing then try some PVA (White) glue and paint it around what you want, and before it dries add some watery matt black and you'll get a reasonable resembelemce to the gunk they applied. You could then peel off bits and leave a few as you felt necessary.

By the 13th July most of the tanks would have been de-waterproffed so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

From the pic I have I'd say you've pretty much nailed it, you need to add a tow cable on the LHS and as you say rear stowage is up to you.

Cheers
