This is a small vignette I did a few years ago (about and finally got around to taking some good pics of it. It depicts an M3A1 of the 24ID in Operation Desert Storm ('90-'91). The 24 ID had its Div Cav Squadron painted up as OPFOR (enemy) vehicles for maneuvers when the call came for them to go to Saudi Arabia for ODS. They left the vehicles in this unique scheme for the war.

Here is a pic of one of their vehicles.

This is the same model I posted a couple days ago as an M2A1. After a few errors were pointed out by a good friend (thanks for the good eyes Rob) I worked up the corrections. Mainly, it was not an M2A1, but an M3A1 Cavalry Fighting Vehicle.

I took a Tamiya M2 kit and added the larger turret basket from the M2A2 kit, moved the rear vision blocks to on top of the TOW reloading hatch, and blanked off the side gun ports.

Here it is, new and improved.

I really like the unique OPFOR scheme, and the 6-color desert camo on the figures came out well.

As usual, Gino, nice work.

Not wishing to be a noodge, but on the M3A1, the side ports weren't blanked off, they didn't exist at all. On the earlier M3's, the side armor had openings precut that had to be plugged for the cavalry variant, but starting with the M3A1, the side armor was solid from the beginning. The panels should really be puttied over and sanded smooth, to be accurate.

Yeah, I know. I didn't want to totally strip down and redo the whole thing, so I simply blanked them off. We will say mine was rebuilt from an earlier version and had the gunports blanked off.
