I would like to build a Sherman III of the 3rd RTR as they fought in North Africa. From what I can figure out from my research, the Formation badge would be the famed Desert Rat badge. When it comes to the AoS marking, I can't figure it out for the life of me. Can anyone help me figure this out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Strange place to find this query
By the time 3 RTR had Shermans they'd moved from 4th Armoured Brigade to 8th Armoured Brigade. 8th AB formed part of 10th Armoured Division (which never saw service as a complete formation) and used a Fox's mask as a badge.

Takes a while to download. There may be addtional stuff in Patrick Delaforce's history of 3RTR - Taming the panzers

Hi Craig,
There you go. AOS White 40 on a Red background.
However, ha ha, there was a lot of switching about of units, sometimes they carried there marking and sometimes not. (That's the reference I was looking for thanks David.)
Cheers

Hi Guys,
What's also worth remembering is that units in the Desert War consisted of different types of tanks so what appears to be a Crusader Regiment/Battalion may have had a Squadron of Grants (Heavies) as well or a Squadron of Shermans, or a mix of all three.
Replacement vehicles were issued on a needs basis and this mix match of vehicle types goes on well into the Italian campaign.

Hi Craig
3RTR are very underrepresented in the photos in the Imperial War Museum's online photograph database, the closest I could get was this shot of an unknown regiment of 8th Armoured Brigade
About all you can make out is that they are Sherman IIs (M4A1) and that they seem to be plain stone (or maybe pink). Can't see any markings either.
