Dear All
Please forgive my ignorance, but I spend my last evening trying to understand the difference between my AFV kit and the Stryker with with additional amor plates (not the slate armour Dude, I catch that point).
No the additional side armor plates, for instance the one that is included with the Eduard kit number 36011
So Question, is this additional side armor plates is now a common features ?
Slate armor is only attached on the additional side armor plates ?
is the distance between these plates and the hull fixe ???
Sorry again for my ignorance
Seb

The side armor is known as stand-off armor or blast plates. These go under the slat armor. When Eduard made their original slat kit for the Trumpeter ICV they did not know about the stand-off armor. They now offer it separately for a couple of reasons:
1) Many times when the slat is removed and the vehicles return to home station these plates are left on, as well as the exhuast deflector too.
2) Eduard felt that many will not want to bother with the underneath armor and so they give people the option of having a perfect slat set up or one that looks the part but is not perfect. This also saves someone money who does not want to work with all that PE.
So, you can buy the blast plate kit to show a vehicle that used to have slat armor attached. Or you can buy the blast plate kit to couple with the the slat kit to make it a perfect Iraq deployed vehicle.
Yes, there is a standard distance between the hull and plate. Many 'male' bolts are between the hull and blast plate and that is how the plate stays away from the hull.

Don't mean to ask a redundant question and If in fact it is I apologize in advance. Does anyone have pictures of what is described in the Concord book on the Stryker as the Mexas system and what exactly these ceramic tiles look like? Or is that what is already replicated in the AFV's model? And lastly does anyone know if the bar armor is just an iterm solution as I've read that the weight has caused instability and other problems of that nature.
Thank You in Advance!!!

I've heard that the slat armor is being replaced with ERA bricks (similar to what is on the Bradley in Iraq). I've read some items on the net that some Strykers are already in service with the ERA. However, I have yet to find any pictures. If any of you folks know of pic's showing this armor, please let me know.
I am hoping that this not a rumor. I really don't want to have to add slat armor to a Stryker, much easier to add the bricks than to mess with all that photo-etch
