Hi everyone,

I have a quick question that I'm sure there's an answer to somewhere. I'm working on my SAS conversion for the Hasagawa 1/24 scale jeep and have run into some small arms questions. Did the SAS employ the Bren MG on their jeeps and was the Boys antitank rifle ever taken out on missions with them? I've found conflicting information so far. I'm trying to figure out what kit and weapons to include with this conversion and I'd like to offer only realistic options as far as actual use.

Thanks for your help,
Jim

hi james, i was talking to an old friend who was in the regiment about your questions, as far as he remembers the bren was carried in the jeeps as a personnel weapon but not really used as a mounted weapon the reason ! its fire power wasnt good enough in other words it isnt a sustaned fire weapon, and the boys antitank was to big and did not really suit their role, but he did say the gear carried by the jeep eliments did change from unit to unit. but the paras, did have single and twin bren mounts on their jeeps hope this helps

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the input, it does help especially considering your source! I was hoping the Bren was at least carried along occasionally as I've put a bit of time into making one in 1/24 scale and hated to just put it on the shelf. Considering what you've said, I think that I'm going to stick with the twin Vickers forward and aft as the jeep's main firepower and just include the Bren as a ground use option.
The Boys wasn't that involved to make so whether I include it or not isn't that big of a deal. There's certainly enough other equipment and weapons for this conversion (they carried quite the bit of junk) that I doubt if it'd be missed. Now back to making those darn sand channels....

Thanks again,
Jim
