I’ve seen pictures of M3 halftracks mounting 120mm mortars in IDF service. Does anyone know if the IDF ever used the M4 with 80mm mortars too?
Thank you,
Noah

Noah,
The IDF used the M4A1 configured halftrack. When the IDf began to standardize their halftracks they mounted the base plate in the middle b/w the tracks and set it up to either fire forward OR backwards. I think these were used through the 50-60s then used the Soltam 120mm mortars.

Chris –
Thanks for the reply and info. Do you have any idea what it would require to convert Dragon’s M4 to and M4A1? Unfortunately, it’s my understanding Dragon didn’t include the necessary parts for an A1 although I believe the differences are fairly minor.
Thanks again,
Noah

Gary,
I didn't say that they used the M4 OR M4a1 - I said they used the set up of the M4A1. They could of used virtually any halftrack to do the conversion.
My info comes from the John Myzska Book "Israeli Military Vehicles".
