Here is the diorama that I took a break from a couple of months ago. Its almost done, and it should look pretty good.

I hand painted the 12 SS Hitleryouth insignia and "Anna" onthe Kingtigers front hull.
And I painted the name of the Shermans commanders girl "Alaina" on the side.
The Sherman ran out of gas and the Germans are driving past it.
I also hand painted the road signs. And the trees are all made from scratch. A big thanks goes out to Irvine Park for contibuting dead twigs off of trees near Glen Loch for such a meaningful cause!

Let me know what you think!

Powder and Hairspray were used for the snow. Come to find out my friend Katy used the same brand and smell of hairspray. Coincidence?

Chip,

very convincing. Awesom dio. I see you used the "Charles King" way to make some pine trees.... excellent performance !!!

If you could make some pics without the real life articles on the back it would be even better.

Only one word describes this dio : EXCELLENT

Thanks for sharing.

Very nice !
The models and the dio are looking good.
the impressions of the treads in the snow are maybe a bit too light... we don't see them enough for a heavy tank like a kingtiger...

Great dio nice job with the camera angle pictures.
But may i make a remark?
I see the tyre track in the snow from the Kubelwagen ( look like a type K1 volkswagen typ 82 ( kfz.1 ) weight is about 700 kg ) but the king is if i am correct about 70 t. but no track in the snow and that is what i find odd Don't take it bad i love your dio so

Love it!!! Did you use baby powder for the snow then spay the hairspray over it? How exactly did you do the snow because I am making one as well.

Yours looks like freshly fallen snow. What about snow that has been there a whlie?

Very nice dio Chip.I have to agree with what the others said on the tracks issue. If its a light terrain thats underneath the tank it will defienatly leave big tracks in the ground. Also you may want to add some gunk on the lower half of the Tiger like some muddy snow, etc. But I love that paint job.Keep up the good work.

Beautiful paint job on the King Tiger... are you going to add a dusting of snow to it as well? I know you stated you were't finished yet, but I was curious... will you cover up some of that awesome paint job for the sake of reality?

Brilliant dio chip250. Love the layout and especially the pine trees. Good vegitation adds so much to a dio. I agree with some track marks about for the tiger.
But dont go just by weight of these monsters. Its quite possible the Kubelwagen could leave a heavier print as the tyres were quite narrow. The weight of the tank is spread out over the entire track surface and means that not as much weight as you would think. If weight was compared by surface touching the ground in square inches between the two vehicles, you might get a surprise!
At the same time a track would look much better and give a sense of movement and life.
Everything looks so good .......... we must pick up on one little nit-pik!!!

Excellent job on the vehicles. Beautiful!

One suggestion (and you may have already done it but I can't tell from the pics) is to add a bit more snow to the vehicles tops if the snow was recent. Or, partially melted snow with water marks.

Other than that suggestion, keep up the great work!

Excellent dio, very impressive. I especially like the feeling of darkness it conveys. It also gives a very real feeling for the relative size between the Sherman and the King Tiger. Makes you appreciate even more the USA tankers who went up against that beast.

Chips it looks very good, the snow is outstanding and really looks fresh fallen. Anyway I've got a question for you: shoudn't the big beast dig a bit more in the snow to show at least a bit of soil?
Bravo!!!
