There are plenty of pictures showing M-35A2 (2,5ton) trucks in OIF.
My question is if these were used also for carrying troops during the invasion or if for carrying the cargo only...???
Thanks for any reply

Yes, they carried just about everything you could load them up with. A truck load of troopers would be appropriate.

While no longer the main backbone of the US military since you have the M900 series of trucks in use, the MTVRs used by the Marines, and others you still saw many M35A2s in service in OIF. I remember seeing a few on TV. In think many though were more used by National Guard units and other in the rear logisitical units but don't quote me completely.
More a less though the main backbone of our logistics today utilizes HEMTTs' and 900 series trucks.

You need to look close at pictures of M35's used by the National Guard, because most of the Guard M35's went thrugh a rebuild program by AM General. They came out with CAT engines with auto trans, power stearing, up graded brake systems, and auto inflation systems on the tires, with only six Goodyear tires, instead of duels on the back. The hood is a little longer and the grill is larger also, because of the larger cooling system.

During OIF 1, most Active Army units at the Bn level still had M35A2 trucks. The M900 series is a 5 ton truck and were never meant to replace M35s, but augment them. Most Companies and Bns still have 2.5 ton (M35A2 or LMTV) for their supply, mess, and sometimes NBC sections. Light Truck companies still use 2.5 tons fro general cargo and troop transport as well. In OIF 1, 3ID drew M35A2s from PrePo stocks for 2 BDEs and the 3rd BDE brought most of their equipment from Ft Benning, GA. I had 4 M35A2s in my Artillery Battery.
The National Guard rebuilds are M35A3 trucks with all the above modifications mentioned.

The M35a2's are currently in the process of getting replaced... Some were upgraded... not All........ There was a email sent out to all Nat guard units within the last month to "Prepare to begin turning in ALL M35 series trucks..... the replacements are slow coming out... so maintain enough to fulfull any emergency situations................. " (that's the jist of the 3 paprgraph long letter) there are Pleanty of -a2's and some a3's hitting the surplus market now but that should increase shortly......... and yes.. the Majority are Multifuel's not the Cat's currently hitting the Surplus market.

The 2.5 ton LMTV is the replacement for the M35s and the 5 ton FMTV is the replacement for M900 series 5 tons. Most active units have already made the transition. There are still quite a few M900 series 5 tons out there in the active force though. In 2002, my battery turned it all 4 of our M923A2s for FMTVs and 6 M35A2s for LMTVs. When we got to Kuwait, we took a step back and drew M923A2s and M35A2s from PrePo stocks.
