I've been digging about on the net trying to find out what colour I should use for Vickers .303 metal ammo boxes. The only one I can find is black with the webbing hand carrying loops. I know that the wooden boxes were the usual brown colour used for link boxes now but its a bit of a dilemma. Can anyone shed any light on what the right colour is?

Hi Karl,
Ammo was supplied in wooden cases containing 2 metal boxes each containing one 250 round canvas belt. I'll see if I've got a pic.

Time for Grumpy to interject another of his famous "Really Dumb Grumpy Questions".
What's a proper or close color for "Service Brown"? Prefer enamels, Humbrols would be fine.

Hi Dave , Humbrol #10 , service brown, its a gloss paint. you might try the paint charts at ipms stockholm, they have a lot of cross reference charts heres an update. humbrol #170 is a very close match in a flat paint. called brown bess but i think they quit making it but im sure some retailers still have some. also testors#1540, tamiya x9,gunze#7 or revell #81 the R.A.L. # 8017. there doesnt seem to be a F.S. #hope this helps. bye the way. its a very dark brown kind of like hersheys.
