Hi Guys,
I'm getting this Mig Productions "enhancement" kit for Christmas. I know it says you need the Tamiya kit, but my question for all you expers is: does it alos work on the Acadamy kit? Please excuse my ignorance, but apart from price, what are the main differences between the Tamiya & Acadamy kits?
Thanks,
Sean

Lightyears!
The Academy kit is much older and less precise. If it also wouldn't fit, I don't know.

Hi Sean,
Stick with Tamiya .
Mig's set is worth it .Although make sure you have a good broad knowledge of reference material.
There is never a shortage of very helpful modellers on this webpage to give advice and help .
I used Mig's set and there was a little coverting this set on the Tamiya kit and I found it a good challenge but nothing too hard.
I placed build photo's in my gallery.
Good luck
Cheers
Michael

This set was designed for the Tamiya HMMWV, use the Tamiya kit it is the best yet.
Are you getting the recent Mig set or the older one.
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/2695
As Jeff points out in this review the newer set have fixed some issues with the older one. The louvers in the new one are crisp and clear, the old one is a mess. The armoured roof on mine had the locator tabs obscured by bad or worn molds. My roof was warped (fixed with hot water) but the new one is beautiful. Plus with the new conversion you get the turret and shield big bonus if you want/need that for your particular vehicle.
The instructions are vague, careful on the removal of the kit windshield and the angle of the new windscreen. Frenchy had the bright idea of using CD jewel box plastic for the glass which is not included in either Mig set. The interior of the M1114 is different than the base Tamiya 1025 so there is nothing included except the seats. The Pro Art Communications set and/or the SINCGARS radio sets are a must if you leave the doors open
http://www.proartmodels.be/mod_whats_new.htm
http://www.proartmodels.be/mod_productgallery_020.htm
I'm part way through mine now and further tortured myself by building it with frag 5 doors and the up armoured glass block turret. If you do a search on this site for M 1114 you will find many interesting discussion and pictures that will certainly help you on your way.
Good luck with your build

Sean,
if you want to correct the MIG shield, well not correct, but add the missing detail, hit up Boggie, HeavyArty, or myslef. I have the pages for the parts manuel on the turret shield that shows the exploded view. I sent pictures of a scratched built shield and the pages to Boggie and HeavyArty has the actual shield I built.
I also have diagrams showing how the "smoke poppers" are wired inside if you wish to add that detail.
Hell, I have the whole damn parts manuel for the darn thing!

Hi Guys,
thanks for all the excellent info. Tamiya kit it will be!
That's a lovely build Michael. I hope mine comes out half-as-good.
Bill, it's the older MIg kit, without the gun turret. I was actually planning on adding this one: http://www.phpshopxml.com/blamod.shop/CID/214a57f06da7ef683b8474c6a1e007c3/function/itemPageDisplay/shopItemCode/BL35050K which includes the smoke dischargers.
I hadn't planned on doing a lot inside, but....when you look at all the possibilities this could turn out to be a year long project and I've not done any "enhanced" Hummers before, but I think it's time I challanged myself so I might be taking you up on thet offer Pete
Heres a pic of my current collection of Hummers, all built OOB and I can't even remember what kit brand most actually were.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc69/35th-scale/100-0099.jpg
I must take some close-up shot of the more recent ones. The older ones are not fit for public display

Actually Pete, the new Mig M1114 conversion for Iraqi Humvees has the turret and turret frontal shield in PE. I think it looks a the side armor little thin because its PE, but the front shield works fine.

Sean your link led me the Blast login page but, not to your resin upgrade (I'm assuming). There is a ton of things you can do once you have the M1114 conversion. You'll be in for a year long conversion but it'll bound to be unique.
Good luck.

Shield, turret, give me a break Jeff I'm allowed a couple of brain farts a day!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the turret armor I was talking about:
And for some insperation on what you can do inside and what the Blast kit looks like once done, here is some more:
I have all the pages from the manuel that shows the correct hook up and blown out drawing for the Blue Force Tracker.
And here is the Blast kits:

Always!
As I was saying the PE - to me - isn't the most ideal choice in this other than its all one piece and assembling is much easier. But yours with all the L pieces and bolts makes it look like real armor. So there is a trade-off.

Banshee,
The link to the image worked fine but the image icon in the thread was broken. The linked image is a great detail shot, I've never seen this before. The rubber shield is that so the driver doesn't bounce their heads off the radio? Sure would like to see the other image, they all provide a glimpse of details and when you're building they all come in handy.
Thanks for the insight.
Jansondiggs, I love them humvee's too, always changing, never two alike.

The rubber shield is so the gunner doesn't constantly kick the radio mounts.

I don't mean to jump your thread but we are all working on the same projects so I hope you don't mind? Please check Frag 5 thread for my ongoing turret and door pictures.
Tnker101, I for one would like to see what pictures you have, any pictures are always welcome here, if you don't mind posting.
Splinty I had never seen those rubber shields before, so the gunners gets that close to the radio when he/she is spinning around up there???
Seasonal greetings to all

Banshee3actual, great image, i see the wires runnng down the dashboard, but where do they come out? Also, where'd you get it (I understand if the answer is the supplyman's "Don't worry about it, sir?" response), just curious.
tnker101, I too would love to see those images. I have a running database of humvee images and love getting new ones.
Bill, if you want to visualize it in 1/35, just put a figure in the turret of you humvee and you can easily see how close the gunner is to the front. If he is sitting on the turret strap, he is kinda swinging around. However, considering most of the padding is on the driver side, I wouldn't be suprised if there is an added bonus for the driver should he bump his head.

The Red & Blue wires ran behind the radio mounts to the Battery box. The wires to the speaker ran across the roof & through a hole drilled near the wading stack bracket .The Company purchased the PA systems through a Police supply company named "Galls"? using discretionary funding. The box was mounted to the support beam with two black zipties. The external speakers were painted with CARC touch up Tan paint from the Motor Pool. There's actually an Issue Power converter now that plugs into the slave cable fitting on the Battery box, 24V to 12V for running various goodies like the PA.
We also had about 300 NYPD Kevlar vests donated by Police Officers to the unit. They were overage vests that we used to line the floors, doors, seats of our vehicles instead of Sandbags. (Our Snipers did use them as well). The vest was especially useful as insulation for the drivers, as the heat from the Transmission near the Gear shift would burn your right leg.

Thanks everyone for all the great pictures, links, suggestions and general good wishes. Everything has finally arrived (Santa got delayed!) and I've just finished my last quickie project (A Trumpeter JGSDF Type 89 IFV) so now ready to begin. I'll try post pics as I go along, but I did want to say I got the MIG Productions M1114 upgrade kit without the gun shield etc, but the moulding is very crisp. Maybe they've updated the moulds for the new set, but still offering as a standalone also. I know Blast models were out of it earlier, so it's not old stock.

Here is what resulted from my poorly cast M1114 Mig roof . https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/109432&page=4
As you can see Mig has offered to replace my older deformed and poorly cast one with one like you must have and like the ones in the newer M1114 kit with the gunners shield.
Keep us posted on your build, perhaps start a blog?
Best wishes

Hello Guys
I have been watching this thread and another at: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/109432&page=1 for a bit now. I will be posting this at the end of that thread as well. You guys have some great work posted here making me glad that my interests are more Second War related (although that has been changing).
I just wanted to inform all of you that we did experience a few problems with a limited number of roofs in the initial production run of HMMWVs in set no. 35-254. This problem has been addressed and we are sorry for any inconvenience it might have caused any of you. MIG and I are also modellers and we understand the frustration of poorly produced resin accessories.
Please also note that our original HMMWV, set no. 35-254, has the same parts as the new HMMWV set no. 35-269. The difference is that set 35-269 also includes the wheels, PE cupola and DUSHKA MG.
Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding this topic.
Sincerely
ANPW

Adam, I appreciate your concern deeply. You and Mig have done so much for custormer service, going well and beyond the call of duty, something that definitely endears me and I know a lot others. Thank you for not just recognizing the ineviatable problems, but stepping up and fixing them.

Work has finally started! I've been unable to find the time recently to dedicate to this but I've been wanting to start my M1114 Up-armoured Humvee for some time. Finally got started:
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc69/35th-scale/Models/IMG00264.jpg
This is a Tamiya M1025 with Mig productions M1114 upgrade kit and a Blast models weapons ring & wheels. I'll post more pics as work continues. This is a better pic of the weapons ring: http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc69/35th-scale/Models/IMG00266.jpg (or maybe not...blackberrys dont make good cameras)
While waiting for all the bits, and energy, to come together I "converted" an Acadamy M1025 to my version of the Dumvee special forces version. This is based on a number of reference photos of unit-level enhancements, but not all on a single viehicle. I've added scratchbuild extra gun mounts and ammo storage on the roof ring, a home-made front bumper, and a resin rear tailgate with shelf and contents. I've the basic painting done and it's awaiting weathering and kit out.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc69/35th-scale/Models/IMG00263.jpg
Heres my supply of ammo boxes, rucksacks, weapons, creates and general what not to kit out both humvees: http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc69/35th-scale/Models/IMG00267.jpg
And when I'm just in the mood for some simple cutting and gluing I'm also working on the M1130 CV Stryker. This has some very tiny parts! http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc69/35th-scale/Models/IMG00268.jpg
For the moment I'm just doing the basic build then it'll sit for a while before I get around to painting, weathering & detailing.
Cheers,
Sean

Heres my supply of ammo boxes, rucksacks, weapons, creates and general what not to kit out both humvees: http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc69/35th-scale/Models/IMG00267.jpg

Adam
I was truly impressed with the replacement set you sent me. The grills on the rear of the roof are sharp and crisp, the entire roof was straight without any deformity. I especially like the super thin running board armour with the inclusion of the PE in case you'd prefer that instead of resin. Very impressive recovery, one I would not hesitate to recommend.
Thank you very much
Bill
Shawn how are you finding the Mig 1114 set? The Blackberry images are really poor quality, too bad because I'd like to really see the weapons ring especially, looks impressive. Any way you can re shoot the pictures with a real digital camera?
I'll keep an eye on this thread, I need the inspiration top get back at my HMMWV's.
Best wishes
Bill

I'll try a borrow a real camera for the progress photos....
Like you said Bill, the MIG M1114 upgrade set is perfect. No warp and nice crisp moulding. The weapons ring plus smoke dischargers are from Blast. Comes with a .50 cal, Mk19 granade launcher and an 7.62mm M249. You get to pick which 2 to use. http://www.phpshopxml.com/blamod.shop/CID/214a57f06da7ef683b8474c6a1e007c3/function/itemPageDisplay/shopItemCode/BL35050K
They have a funny website. You have to enter through the home page and specify your location (Eu, non-EU etc) then click on the link above again it will bring you to a better pic than I can provide.
