Hey Guys,
Have a new dio for you to check out. I have decided that since my love (and business) is primarily the surroundings that i would work together with friends on my projects. So basically the Elephant was buit by a friend of mine named Randy Fuller, and i built the base, this give each of us to concentrate on the areas we preferre and still get to put the elements most seem to want in a diorama. I hope everyone enjoys this one, i truly try to listen to the comments and use the advice to improve. on that note this one is also offered for your comments and hopefully a few compliments. all are welcome as well as questions if anyone has any.
I know most don't enjoy a base without armor or figures but i put several pics before and after the Elephant was added.
thanks for looking, if you want to see more or larger pictures use the link to my site and go into the gallery section.

I like it. Great job wit the rubble and the house ruin. The only thing that doesn't look right to me is the telephone pole. It looks way too big in diameter. It looks about 3 feet across to me. Most telephone poles I have seen are about 12 inches, or less, in diameter. I have used 1/4 inch dowel for them and think that looks about right.

Hi
All looks very good, but .........., and Gino posted just before I could log in, his comment about the Telegraph pole is one I agree with. It's about twice as thick as it should be.
Otherwise looking good as always Gary.
Alan
P.S. Despite it being 10.40 at night, pitch black in the UK I know we have one (pole) at the bottom of our road, so I went and measured it - 210mm diameter, with a slight taper (just like a tree funnily enough) going to the top.
Thats just over 8" for you over the pond still stuck using feet and inches.
So in 1/35 scale about 6 mm/ quarter of an inch diameter, (as Gino says.)
Edit. Add information

i agree with everyone else about the pole, the house looks great but back to the pole, depending on where it is, they have those concrete ones over there across the pond in europe.

Hi Gary
I love your buildings and the damage that you have created so much. The pole damage looks fab, if a bit thick. A small amount of litter from clothing, bedding, belongings, crockery or furniture very lightly spaced within the debris would give a little of the look of former life that has been destroyed in an instant.
The devistation does look very convincing.
All the very best

hey guys,
thanks for the time, especially going outside at night and measuring and all. the pole is just slightly over 18" in diameter and was meant to represent a tall pole, i really didn't know how big to make it and had put up a post before. the ones around here are close to 16" or so and i tried to make this one for a taller use. next time i'll shrink it.
i'm really happy the rest of it seems to be pleasing i look forward to posting many more in the future.
thanks again,
Gary Smith

Pole? What pole?
I do like it Gary. You have got some good terrracotta tones to all the rubble and dust, which gets everywhere during demolition.
In urban scenes such as this, is was possibly more common to see the wall-mounted brackets for carrying wires, and if there were to be wooden poles then they would most likely be aiding the span across say a town square or similar. The closest wall to the German thingy looks to teeter quite precariously in one photo, adding to the 'unstable' look of it all. Great stuff

Just echoing the comments on the pole. Some food for thought should you decide to do another damaged pole in the future. Instead of breaking it cleanly completely in half, break it part way, then stwist it to achieve a more shattered appearance. The rest of your dio looks pretty good. Thanks for sharing. "Q"

Ok, enough of the pole lets talk about the rest.
The way you added a small piece of the 'down' side of the dio is a really nice touch. It gives dimension and closure to the front without distracting or getting in the way.
The windows and glass are really nice I like them. The touches of color add a spice to the viewers eye (whether they know it or not -subtle). The size of the derbis is really nice. The small scattered litter covers the scene well.
The Elephant is well done, I like the weathering on the running gear. The camo is pretty cool too.
