Hello friends, when I read Honeycut's "Mud, glorious mud." thread, it inspired me instantly !
So after my "Die Letzte Sonne." diorama in braille scale, I decided to give my recently finished Jagdpanzer IV L/70 a place in a muddy field.
This is the result so far, it isn't finished yet :
- I still have to do some painting and "weathering" on the cows,
- adding mud on the vehicle's lower hull and tracks, wheels...
- painting some figures if I can buy suitable ones...etc.
Pics :
I hope you like it ! G.

Overall - great project.
My nit-pic is that the grass is to clean all the way to the surface of the mud. As are the feet of the cows (you'll probably do that based on your 'weathering cows' comment).
I'd add some dark brown washes to the base of the grass to show that they have absorbed some of the "gunky" mud.

Thank you Scott, that's a great advice. A couple of washes can improve the field. G.

Nice work so far Guy i like what you have done with the mud and water effect. The one thing i would suggest is to sink the feet of the cows into the dio to give the feel of weight to them, also some deep muddy hoove prints behind them will add to the effect.

Hi there Steve ! The cows are just temporary placed in the setting. I have to paint them again, this is fabric paint work. But I'll sink them a bit when definately glued in the diorama.
New pic of the panzer, more mud involved now :

The Jagd really looks sunk in and nicely mudded.
The cows are going to be pretty muddy too.
Fun to see.

Scott : The cows will be placed "in" the mud.
Steve : The campaign's dead line is june 2008, I still have to paint three figures (two I sculpted myself), but it won't be a problem I guess.
Bill : tomorrow I will make new pics, I made a ripped off barb wire hanging on the Jagdpanzer. At this moment I'm painting the cows.
Thank you guys for your kind replies ! G.

I like how you tied the Jagd into the terrain. The clumps of grass in the drive sprocket and road wheels are a nice touch. Looking forward to seeing the finished dio!

Has to be said this is some of your sloppiest work mate!
Great work Guy; glad your mum let you come down and play in the mud! The cows add a sense of "That Jagdpanzer's going nowhere...."
Is this a euphemism?!
Good stuff
Brad

Dave, Bradley, thank you for the encouraging words.
My cows are painted and I hope they come out better instead of the Preiser fabric paint layer !
Meanwhile I have already sprayed on a matt finish and painted some ears brown (LOL), and the barb wire is rusty now.

New pics coming up. G.

The tank really does look completely bogged, very muddy.
I still think the grass looks too flurorecent, more brown washes will do it for me.

Hi there
I would have thought the oposite might be true, as with any heavy rain the grass grows stronger and, I would see as greener every minute. I only have to look at my back garden in the winter with a good heavy soaking and not mowed for a long time. The kids still churn up mud around their play equipment and the grass looks long and unkempt.
JMHO
Love the mud!!!

Very nice cows. I think it turned out well. One thing that could be affecting the color is the lighting of the diorama. It may be a bit more toned down in person.

Looks awesome. Really realistic looking. I especially like the cows not getting spooked by the tank just sitting there:D
