I am going to make some dio's showing a "what if" scenario if Germany had managed to invade Britain. This first dio shows a small german party landing on quiet beach on the south coast in the Lydd/Hythe area. It will be a small raiding group to cause disruption with a sniper prior to hepl cover the landings. It is about 70% done at the moment.
Cheers

That's because the photo's are classified. If you saw them, they would have to shoot you.

Hey Robbo,
What scale is this? If it's 1/35, will you be using Bronco's new Land Wasser Schlepper? The Germans were going to use these vehicles for Operation Sea Lion.

Hi there
If they didn't have the iron ones, it could be a scene of the Germans practicing on their own beaches for the landings!

..Hi Robbo,
..being based in the Lydd/Hythe area I can confirm that the sea & shingle are very well done ....!!

Very nice diorama. The water and beach is very well done.
I assume you are going to mount an engine on the boat? Otherwise you might want to include paddles for the crew.
Looks good and dinamic with the poses of the crew.
I am looking forward to see more

Thanks for all the comments guys, I've been planning this idea for a while.
I don't know why some of the pictures appear as red x it seems to vary from day to day.
kglack43; With reference to the Iron barricades that is the beauty wuth whatifs, if it is feasible then you are allowed to bend the truth slightly, did they really use them I don't know but they might have.
gooseizloose; The AA position would be a nice touch but it would be too far back from the sea edge to include it in the dio, plus behind some of the baeches is higher ground I am sure most the AA stuff would be located there.
TB2; This dio is for a small raiding party but maybe if I do the actual invasion or just after I could use some of Bronco's vehicles.
FalkeEins; Thanks for your comments I was trying to do it from memory and this was what I settled for. I wasn't sure if the sea should have been more brownish?
SGTJKJ: Ihave the guy with the engine he just wasn't ready at the time, but he will be added.
I need to make slings for the weapons does anyone know how wide the slings should be as mine always look too big?
Cheers Robbo

This looks great, and the composition is nice. The only thing I can really critique is the sand. It looks like the sand you used is actual sand, which is out of scale at this size. It looks more like river stones than sand when compared to characters. You'd need something more powdery in its consistency to make 1/35 scale sand.
You could use something like Woodland Scenics Fine Buff or Talus, but I find that even those seem too big. I read somewhere that the sand they sell in pet-stores for reptiles is a very fine, powdery sand, and from what I can remember of viewing reptile enclosures at pet-stores, that's probably true. You could also check out the aisles at your local supermarket for powdery sand coloured substances. Spice aisle would be the best bet. And the cheapest option would be to take the current sand your using, in larger quantities, and sift it to get the really fine sand out of it. Once you have an option for fine sand though, mix in a bit of the current sand to approximate the random stones you find a on a beach, and your dio will look perfect!
Also, I know you're not done yet, but a friend of mine uses this pic as a reference for beach scenes. All sorts of lovely detail options with rocks and seaweed and varying types of rocks and sand. And if you're able to figure out how to make that wet-sand look where water has just retreated from the scene, WOW, that would make a dio pop!

Just a thougth.

Hello guys, thanks for your thoughts:
Glue_Huffer: The substance in the dio does not look like sand because it is not a sandy beach. The beach is made of shingle which is like gravel except all the pieces are roughly the same size and mostly smooth. The size of the shingles is about right and I am glad that FalkeEins who lives nearby agrred the realism. The beach also has no larger rocks on it, it is a strange place like somebody has sorted it out and removed any thing bigger than the shingle. There is sea weed on some of the iron work still trying to make it look wet. For the shingle looking wet check the second photo there is a darker area next to the water, is this too subtle and do I need to make the area larger?
Cheers
Robbo

Ooh, I see the darker area now. It's right shade, but yeah, maybe make it a bit larger in area.
EDIT: And I just Googled some pics of those beaches your basing it on, and you do have the shingle right. I've seen shingle beaches before, but never ones so clean and uniform in distribution of shingle as the beaches of Lydd and Hythe.
