Yet another Normandy-diorama.
This is in 1/72nd scale depicting British soldiers on the march to Caen in Normandy '44. The Churchill is Italeri and the Panther is Fujimi. Soldiers are from Revells WWII British soldiers kit.
The buildings groundfloor facade is Italeri, and the rest (right hand side facade, first floor and roof) are homemade from plaster and window-frames from some modelrailway-company (sorry I don't know the companys name, but they make really good looking doors, windows etc., for buildings). The other house - a small shed - is made in the same way. Groundwork is plaster and HEKI grass mixed with sand, grass-straws and catlitter. Trees are from NOCH with flok (don't know the name in English - green foam rubber ) glued on.

I still need to make a driver for the Churchill, place some equipment on the tank and get the road more dirty and messy. I also have to paint the ground in front of the house.

Hope you enjoy it.

A great little dio, good job!
From what I can see the groundwork and painting is excellent ,well done. I especially like the trees and bushes.

2 tips though:

1. I think there is a sink mark that hasn't been filled on the inside of the Churchill commanders hatch.

2. In future dio's try not to line things up with the edges of the base eg. your buildings and the panther. a slight angle on them gives the scene a more 'natural' look.

Keep up the good work,

James

..and good to see that I'm not the only danish small scale builder!

Nice work, looks good.

Try to take the pics in indirect light instead of direct sunlight, it distorts the colors.

Only thing missing is -as you say -a commander for the Churchill and some visible signs why the Panther is left behind - of some debris around the panther to show it was left in a hurry.

Hi Simon,
nice little dio youve got there.I go along with some of the other comments about the abandond panther the gun dipped a bit and some detritus of war lying around and the tank angled toward the grass area a bit.And add a crew to the Churchhill and youve got a winner.I do like the the first picture it gives the impression of a lovely summers day with the vibrent green foliage.

Hi guys

Thanks for you remarks. As I wrote, the dio isn't finished yet. I know about the hatch and it will be fixed as soon as the commander is found... I agree on your opinions on the Panther - it surely needs some German 'left overs' - helmets, guns, bags etc. Building in 1/72 is rather new to me, so I have to build up a stash with equipment, spare parts etc. before I can begin to add these details to the finished projects.

I am glad to hear that your overall impression is nice. And thanks for your remarks once again.

Cheers

Simon

Very impressive, especially considering the scale. Crikey some of you guys have sharp eyes to pick up that pin mark! Don't think I dare post any more pictures of my stuff!
Simon - I notice what looks like the Das Reich symbol on the Panther, this is a bit of an unfortunate choice because Das Reich was one of the few Panzer units that spent most of the Normandy battles fighting the Americans; it was usually split into two Kampfgruppes to stiffen the mainly infantry divisions on the western part of the Normandy front (although of course all units got hopelessly mixed up in the Falaise debacle).

Thanks for your reply Steve.

About the markings: Sorry to hear. Stupid mistake, especially considering its the only divisonal marking on the vehicle - besides the numbers on the turret. Well, lets just asume that the tank got lost from its unit and took up fighting the Brits.

Thanks again, its appreciated.

Simon

Nice diorama, Simon.

The Das Reich markings could easily be explained by units getting mixed up in the chaotic fighting and the quick forming of battle groups. That is the sort of excuse I use when I make similar mistakes

Thanks for sharing
