I've only used liquid mask once and I wasn't happy with it. I can't remember the brand name I used but I tried it on a 1/48 scale B17. I first sprayed a light grey paint down then brushed on the liquid mask, then sprayed on the olive drab for the topside. When it came time to peel off the mask it didn't want to come up. I had to really scrape at it in order to get it to come up then it pulled some of the light grey paint off.
Any suggestions on which brand to use and any tips on how to use it? I'm going to need some kind of good mask on the USS ARIZONA I'm doing for the warship campaign.
Thanks in advance.

Ya - know my memory stinks - I can't for the life of me remember what brand I used. It was a sky blue color in a bottle about 2" tall. It dried to a foggy clear.
I like the stuff - I did have to use a sharpened toothpick a couple of time to pry up an edge. Nothing frustrating at all though.
I'll try and repost a brand when I get home (if I can do that before Jim starts his magic).

Most likely you have the same stuff I do Slodder....from Micro Mark.....mine is a pale blue color...and has some little blue flecks in it. A buddy of mine also has some kind....for the life of me I can't remember the name of it....but it comes in a bottle about the size of the old square bottles of testors brush cleaner, and its purple...and dries with a pupleish hue to it so its easier to see on glass....I like the Micro Mark stuff myself....I find the thicker the coat or multiple coats you put on the better....I find when its really thin it is tough to come up.....had to use masking tape to lift some of it off....but other than that...it works great.

The stuff I got is Ambroid E Z Mask. It's also a light blue color and pretty thick. I'm guessing I need to put it on thicker. Do you think putting down a layer of Future before the mask might make the mask come up easier?

Thanks all - My memory cells thank you too.
As far as putting down future first - I don't know if that will help (I've never futured a canopy). I usually put on a pretty thick coat when I use the stuff. I don't worry about the edges, I cover it all. Then I go back when it's dry and cut out the frame with a brand new #11 blade.
The thicker the coat the easier it is to get off.

Sounds like humbrol´s liquid mask. It is a light purple ....... maybe violet. It comes in a square bottle just like their thinners. I have a bottle of this at home but have never used it. Has anybody used this stuff? Comments?

Yeah, my buddy that has it used it and from what I could tell, and from what he said, it worked very well...a couple of things I noticed that could be better or worse than the Micro Mark stuff, was that the Humberal stuff was a fair amount thicker in the bottle...more like a paste than a liquid......but when it dried....it had a purpleish hue to it, rather than a mostly clear hue to the Micro Mark......mind you once its painted, it doesn't matter anyway!!!!
Again....the key is a thick coat...the thicker the better, as it is easier to pull off after the paint is dry. I had a small problem on clear styrene in a couple of places....but I think it was becasue it wasn't thick enough.....kept the paint out....but adhered quite well.....eventually it came of and was no problem.

I've used it a couple of times, and it worked so-so. I use masking tape a lot to. And that never fails!
