I saw this on the Modelmecca website and wondered if this item is supposed to be a generic train station interior, or modelled after an actual one, and if it was meant to be for a stand-alone display or intended to be put into a train station model kit. Thanks.

I believe that CD had a series of generic train station components that all 'fit' together and would 'work' together if you chose to do so.
Do a search of CD products for "Train Station" - this is most of the line.

Ironically, Modelmecca didn't have this item, but I found it at an ebay store. Surprised the listing for the interior didn't mention it went with this.
Under Hitler's regime, the German and later European railway network was greatly expanded, so I wondered if there had been a standardized design for new train stations (akin to the "rows of houses that look all the same" that were built in the US after WW2), and if that was it. Presumably not-it looks too quaint.

I have used the station kit in a Diorama but didn't use the interior.
I will say though that you would not really see much of the interior anyway as the station kit is a full kit, unless of course you leave the roof open.
cheers
