I was wondering what 1/35 kits are out there that could be used as civilian vehicles? I know of Tamiyas Jeep, and the Italeri Land Rover. MIG has the burnt out car and HI-Lux. I was just wondering if there was anything else available.

Matt, straight civilian kits are rare. You can find a few Arab kits from VP

You can also get mixed resin kits with GI's and civilians.

Talking about 1/32 car kits, Arii has released many japanese cars from the 50's to the 90's (Owners Club Series). You can find them at asian online stores (at about $6 each) or on eBay...

IIRC, the Arii series contains a pretty nifty 50's VW bug, which could come in handy in a variety of applications.

To be honest I didn't expect to find anything useful. But thanks to you guys I found two perfect kits.

A 61' Datsun Bluebird taxi

There must be a million cars that look basically like this in Iraq.

And a 55' Daihatsu CM10T

How could I resist this truck. It could be driven by Mr Bean's arch enemy!

A big thanks to you guys for helping me out once again. Now if I can just finish my current dio I could get started on my next one!

That Datsun Bluebird is just perfect. Too cool.

Maybe you can blow one up and put it in your next diroama, Matt? Oh, wait...nevermind.

Where do you get these cars. I would love to do a Diorama of an M1 driving over and crushing a car. I read an article and have the pictures of an incident where am M1 crushed a car to avoid suspected Iraq army personel fleeing the area early in the War. As its crushed mybe there is another way of doing this.instead of buying a kit.

Hi Cookie. I found the cars on e-bay for 7 dollars each. Simply type in a search for Arii. I found several great kits. I would have bought more but then my next diorama would get out of control. Oh and have you been reading my mind? I wasn't going to say anything yet but, yes. My plan for my next diorama (many major details have not yet been set in stone) is to have an M1 Abrams (I know you are all shocked) crushing a car. I have never done this before but have wanted to for a while. I want to keep one vehicle intact and partially crush the other. This is why I want the kits. The crushed car will have parts still intact. It will be "mid-crush" if you will. I don't think I will model a specific event but if you wouldn't mind I would love to hear (or read) about the incident you referred to. And if you could share the pictures that would be great too. I do plan on making it into another blog so everybody will get to see it as it comes along. It's still probably a month or two away from starting still. I better get my current diorama done first.

Just a few "AFV vs Car" videos from Iraq (found on Liveleak) :

Video4

I like the "Bradley vs Mercedes" one. You can find nice 1/35 diecast Mercedes sedans on eBay (made by Cursor or Conrad)
