Hello all!
I haven't been around to much lately because of a hectic work schedule. But since I have been on vacation, and now on short term disability I have gotten a little further on the dio.
I started this about 2 years ago. I'm thinking of maybe a field applied winter camo for the truck or just a decent three color camo job.
The truck is dragon's 3 in 1 kit. The figures are tamiya's german soldiers at breifing set. I thought I would try something a little humorous for my first dio. I wanted to depict a setting where the track was tossed, and they have to be somewhere very soon.
Any thoughts or comments will be gladly appreciated! And thanks for looking.

Looks great, a well laid out dio, and a good use of the Tamiya figs.
The base looks great and the half track looks like a good clean build so far.
One point though - although the track might be broken, there should still be a full set of links there, not half the amount you show. Also unless the 251 was reversing the 'loose' track would be at the bottom not at the top as you show. However, this could be due to the kitt not being finished, however I thought it best to mention!
Keep up the good work,
James

Very nice "in-progress" dio. I really like the blown up building, where did you get it, or is it all scratch built? The 251 really looks like it's coming along superbly.
Excellent job overall,
Rob

James,
I see what you are saying about the tracks. This is my first time really doing something with damage. So should I have the track under the road wheels also?
Rob,
I got the building/base from Squadron. It is a very nice kit, but I added the second floor and the texture to the inner walls as it was "naked" inside.
Thanks for the comments. I post more as work progresses.

I really like the diorama so far. It really tells a story.
The background and the building looks very realistic. I have to agree with the tracks comments, but besides that, it is great so far.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers.
PS: I just bought a 251 myself last week, and I can't wait to put my hands on it!

Thanks Pablo,
I'll get the track issue worked out. I still have to do some finishing on the base/building.

Hey Danny, thanks!
Could you tell me who's the manufacturer, if you remember? I have a Steyr 1500 I would absolutely love to put on a base like that.
Any hints on this will be appreciated!

Rob,
I will look to see if I can find the name of it. I bought about 2 1/2 years ago. I looked through squadrons online catalog and didn't see it. But I will look around maybe I could find the receipt for ya.

Gday Danny
I like it mate you have done a good job here. In my eyes though, I reckon there is scope to add some more 'haphazard' rubble? Looking at the scattered bricks alongside the building, they seem to be placed a little too symmetrically, so a few added onto these at differing angles will add a bit more depth and angle. Also the bottom right corner behind the commander seems too symmetrical as well with the placement of the barrel and crate. Even something like a plank or signpost laid across them at a different angle would look the part. Also, some more rubble piles could be added to the space along the building to the rear of the halftrack, as where it is positioned it doesn't lend well to viewing anything else from this side? Does the suspension adjust to allow for the angle of the front wheel up on the curbside? One thing to really jazz up the interior would be to add a destroyed timber floor out of either scale lumber or plastic strip.
I like the theme you have developed through the figures poses. This really suggests that the diorama should be viewed from the front and the left relating to your camera direction.
Good stuff
Brad

Thanks Brad!
This being my first dio I am still learning a lot of the basics. I am trying to do something with a little humor in it. The base has the rubble/ debris cast into it. I guess it wouldn't take much to add to it. I have toyed with placement of the troops and the vehicle, even placing a dead russian either on the second floor or on the piano in the building. I just can't figure which looks better. Guess I'll have to post some pics for that one.

James,

Yes,
I'd say you want half of the run of tracks over the top of the road wheels, with it continuing around the drive sprocket at the front and then out under the wheels with lose track out behind the 251.
To me that would show that the track has snapped, and they have rolled forward a few feet before coming to a halt. The loss of control because of the broken track could also explain the haphazard parking with the front wheel on the curb!
Good luck with this its looking great,
James

Hey Danny,
Any more updates on this? Would love to see the progress. Danny, a quick request if I could. Could you take a few shots (pics) of your 251? I'm currently working on mine also (251/1 Ausf D) and would love to see detailed pics of it.
Thanks much!
Rob
