I've ordered Heller's VAB w/Azimut's am parts. I'm inquiring as to what this version is and what is entailed with building the kit. this is in 1/72 scale.

Hi,
the VAB with the 20mm gun is in service with the motorized infantry companies and the tank companies.
In the former, there is 1 per coy and it carries a support squad (long range sniper team mainly)
In the latter, there is a full platoon of 3 which is used to give close protection to the tanks or perform some recce duties.
Originally, there were also in ADA units to protect the missile launchers. I think they are no more used in this role.
So you have some choice for the decoration.

Olivier,
Has the VAB with the 20mm gun been used outside France, such as in Kosovo or Afghanistan? If it has, do you know where I can find photo references?
Thanks,
Dave

I've been looking for reference photos as well but, haven't found any at this time. My plan is to leave the hatches/doors open for a possible crew to be added later.

Hi Dave,
the VAB T20-13 (correct denomination) has been deployed on every theatre of operation from Bosnia to the current ops even in Ivory Coast.
Check the French MOD website to get some in action pictures and try a Google search.
If you need details pictures, have a look at my site (my banner).

ADV has 2 sets of 1/72 modern french figures. One is with summer style uniform , the second is with flak jackets in balkan style. The two sets are very nice.
For information the VAB T20 were used in Bosnia against snipers with great results.
Notice that air force commandos uses another version where the turret is not on the center but on one side of the roof.
There're plenty of photos in differents books the best is Peacekeeping recognition Guide 1.
Hope this help

I'm not specialist of 1/72 figures but in live the ADV's look 1/72. I have preiser US modern sets which from memory looks same size, You saw it in live?
Anyway i'm affraid that it's the only choise .
Happy modeling
