thanks would you be able to use some of those mods to M1126.I would like to add some type of shield around my RWS.And when will the PE of the blast panels be released. And last can the Stryker crews be able to create there own type of protection to help them fend off oncoming rounds at them.

I can't think of the RWS being protected. Edit: I checked out some of my photos again and noticed some units - I believe newer deployments - use a single large blast panel on the right side of the TC position. I can not tell in the few I have if there is a panel to the rear of the hatch or the the left. I doubt it because I think the blast panels merely go around the outside of the roof, therefore encompassing all the hatches. The TC hatch on the RV has all round protection now (see Miloslav's recent photos on his most recent thread). But the RV does not use the RWS.

The PE panels are being released in January, as noted at the beginning of Miloslav's note.

YOu can decide to depict older vehicles/deployments in which the units used sandbags around the rear air guard hatches and squad leader's hatch. THis was before units started getting the blast panels.

Yup Edward, like Bob said, sandbags where used in different ways. here is my layout I used

With the sandbags, there is really no wrong or right way to lay them out around the hatches.

Another possibility is camo netting over the troop hatches, I worked the same area as some of 25IDs guys in Baghdad and all of their Strykers had camo netting.

Yes, those are kind of interesting looking. Note that the sandbag thing would not go with the camo net. The camo nets started to be used about a year ago or a bit more, and by then the sandbags were replaced by the blast panels. So, camo nets go w/ blast panels.

Joe, let us know if you saw the camo nets being used w/ the sandbag set-up, but that is my recollection about the nets.

hey guys, just wanted to drop some lines in about current things. the 2-25 units which are in Taji have the camo nets, without sandbags. I got to get on my buddies MGS and look things over. Not much with those other than the headlights sitting diffrent on the MGS than other variants, the headlights are in the frontal SLAT armor. I also noticed some of the Strykers getting SLAT armor that is not as thick as the older stuff, it is narrower but will be just as effective. Not as narrow as Bar Armor. There have been a few modifications to the MGS since it was fielded, but none of it really external other thanthe TC .50 mount. It is now on an about 150 degree ring that has a hand crank and a TAGS for the TC. Also the right side, rear smoke discharger was removed so there would be room for the TAGS. All the ICV's are getting the camo netting, and the ATGM's might too, not sure how they are gonna pull that one off though.

Alright guys I am off for RnR so I will be able to check this site once a day or more while I am back in Stewart. Take care

Thanks for the info, being a non military guy,i do get the reasons for the blast panels, sand bags, but the netting?I thought netting was to help breakup a vehicals lines or to help with blending in the woods or open fields. Why netting in an urban setting. Can you send us some photos of these modifacations. Thanks and be safe!

i think the netting was/is used mainly for shade.

Like Pete said, much of the netting used now is for shade. It has the added benefit of breaking up the outline of the Soldiers in the hatch to snipers. Really just depends on how the net is set up though.

yes the camo net is to break up the outline of the soldier, the extra perk to it is that it provides shade.
