Hello guys, I recently started another small scale project, the Dragon Armor Pro Maus.
This is the box art :

For comparison, T34 and Maus :

Before I start painting, I try to make some pictures.

I got this beast for Christmas from my wife, so looking forward to seeing how it builds up.
cheers

Michael : the tank builds nicely together, no major problems, but the plan is not always very clear. The build is straightforward, only a little filling here and there is needed to make it look perfect. Reference pics can be useful too.
!!! Once the turret is installed, it can be moved two millimeters in all directions !
Conclusion : a nice project, not difficult, good detail, especially the DS tracks are fabulous !
It's a hell of an ugly thing, but so impressive !

Looking great so far.
It is certainly a big beast!
I had a good look at the kit last night and like you I am most impressed by the tracks. They will look awesome under some paint and wear.
Cheers
Mike

I really like it. As you know I'm working on my 1/72 Jagdtiger at the moment and I found weathering in this scale quite difficult to do subtile (and so I have a heavily weathered Jagdtiger), but you manage well here.
Great job!

Guy, I like what I'm seeing so far, but comparing the photograph, I wonder if you are going to add more to the camouflage scheme?
Having said that, your spot filtering/washing deserves a feature in it's own right.
Very nice, I'm looking forward to the finished mode.

Neil : about the barrel, I was told that a German barrel was never primed in this red primer. These barrels were usually primed with a grey primer, heat resistable stuff.
The hull red primer on it looked nicer, so I added this one, not correct I know, but it looks better and it's just "artistic" freedom. The picture was just for inspiration.
Thank you for your attention.
Henk : no, the camo is now what I wanted it to be, but as I said to Neil, I used the wartime picture just for inspiration. There is another difference with reality and historical correctness : the camo showed on the Maus pictured is brushed on, not sprayed. I sprayed mine. But I will certainly build another Maus after this project, painted historically correct, by brush. Thank you too for your attention ! G.

Great work,
I'll be building this baby's big brother soon and am surprised at how more acurrate the small scale version is! I suppose being a newer kit DML corrected their mistakes.
Great work, some excellent painting skills on display here, it looks great even if it isn't historically acurate (tut tut!).

James : thank you, usually I try to make it as historically correct as I can, but this Maus gave me the freedom to play. I want to make it look as if the tank elements (barrel, turret, hull) were rapidly fixed together during the last moments of the War. G.

I figured that was the look you were going for, the beauty of these prototypes and late war tanks is that they give you the freedom to play. I'm building a late war king tiger at the moment where i'm going for exactly the same kind of look, with hull, turret and barrel being different colours/schemes. A bit of fun before I start my Maus which I've decided to be anal with and make 100% historically accurate!
Have fun,

Guy,
Excellent job on the weathering and camo. Very good comparision pic of the Maus and T-34. Shows to good advantage just how huge the real thing was. I too have this kit in my pile but it's from Peguases.
Waiting to see yours finished. Keep up the excellent work!!!

Looks great Guy!
This is really coming along nicely, can't wait to see it finished. Are you planning on placing it in a dio or just displaying it?
One tip though - the exhausts sticking out of the front right and left grills should be a rust colour rather than the dunklegelb you have painted them.
Keep up the good work,

Thank you all guys for your supporting replies.
Yes that's correct, I still need to finish the exaust pipes. But also other small detail work still has to be done. We're working on it, pics follow soon. I wanted to display it, quite simple, but making a small scene is so funny to do, so...

clean. Well done, so far.

Once again, excellent job Guy, she really looks the part.
On first glance I thought you may have over done the mud on the lower hull, but in fact it reminds me of a pic of the Maus that was bogged down due to its 170t weight, and the mud level would be exactly where yours is.
This looks like a nice 'little' combat veteran - straight of the production line and to the front.

James : I'm glad you like it. It was a difficult job to make it exciting enough because of the big, flat sides. I did not want to risk too excessive chipping en so I chose effects made by pigments. I hope to finish the mouse today. Thank you for your reply. G.
