I need your help.
This is the original of one of Tamiya´s decals options for the T- 55- the white 826.
On the left hand side of the turret, where the white 6 is painted over, is a "thing", where I have no idea, what it could be.
I checked all my references, but I didn´t find it on any other T- 55.
Is there anybody out there who has a better picture, or could tell me what it is.
The picture is from Tank Magazines´special on the T- 54/55/62 series.
Please have a look on the glacis plate. If you do build this decal option, you should not forget to drill a hole in the front glacis plate.
This one is one of my options for the "Cold War Cook- Off", so it´s quite important for me to identify this "thing".

Webshots doesn't do hot-linking. You can't link to it, but if you put it in the address bar it will come up:

Looking at it, I would guess it was some kind of storage case. If you look at the top of it, it looks like it folds over on itself. I could be wrong, and I'm not 100% that is the answer, but that's what it looks like to me.

well, I have no definative idea of what it is, but here is what I noticed.
It is permanent, else psrt of the No. 6 would not be painted on it.
If indeed it is "hinged" or "Flapped" at the top as it looks, the grab handle above it will interfer with it.
Now it MIGHT be a case for a infantry leader to keep info, or it may hold a device to communicate with the crew, like the us "intercom phones" onthe M26's.
Or it may be Crazy Ivan propaganda designed to mess with modelers! #:-)

hi all , the object is the deep water wading breathing tube and as for the hole in the hull front plate is for m/g and is only fitted to t 54 hulls. so forget it unless you want to build a t54 , then it is a new turret , new engine deck and new rear fuel stowage racks , and last the hole . cheers ian

Hi Ian,
the tank on the picture is a T- 55, the turret lacks the ventilation dome.
This tank is one of the decal options of the Tamiya kit.
The kit lacks the hole. Therefor I mentioned the hole for anybody who plans to build that special tank not to forget the hole.
I know, that it is the deep wading equipment on the right hand side of the turret (left hand side of the picture). I meant with "left hand side" the tank itself, not the view of the picture.
I am still looking for any hints on the "thing" on the left hand side of the turret (right hand side of the picture), where the white six of the registration no. 826 is painted over.
