I'm always in awe of the painting skill that I see from the photos posted here and at other web sites ... but ...

I ALWAYS kind of shake my head when I see figures carrying rifles, etc that appear to be completely weightless! Carry an M-1 or SMLE around for a bit and see what I mean! Those blasted things are HEAVY!

OK, rant off

I know what you mean mate!
I have seen a Commonwealth soldier running and carrying a Bren by its handle like a briefcase as if he is late for the 8:21
Seems that kit poses are to blame though. Hard to resculpt without altering the whole body to suit the strain needed...

Another pose that gets me, and was pointed out by e memebr of the club who does French and Indian reenacting, is the casual pose where the hands are crossed ofver the barrel of a musket which is also directly below the figure's chin. Like this

That's actually the tried and tested "beard cleaning kit" first used by the early setlers. Another vital safety measure built in to the early muskets was the fact that they were longer than an arms length.

As you know, forgetting to check that your rifle is not unloaded can have serious consequenses, and after all, they hadn't invented the safety catch at this stage.

He looks like he's smoking a huge pipe, or blowing into it like a yodeller!

hey Al it doesn't even look like he's got hands. as they seem to disappear into his beard
but it's really the manufactures fault they posed them like it but yes I've seen people pose a British soldier with a bren gun and he seemed like it was a suitcase

Yeah, but...

You don't tend to notice the weight when people are shooting at you.
