Help! I was just finishing up the newer Tamiya Panzer IV with the glueable tracks. I painted them with Tamiya acrylic, as a base coat, then made a wash with W&N turpentine and artist oils. A few minutes after the wash was applied, the tracks began to melt. So i guess the question is, is the turpentine too "hot" for these type tracks? or is there some step that i missed that would have prevented this from happening? I would hate to burn up a second set on the other P IV I'm working on...

Bribo,
sorry for the accident, but unfrtunately it happens. I don't know if the gluable track differ quite a lot from the standard PVC ones coming with the most part of the kit. With those I had several bad experiences so I do as follow:
- wash them in warm water with dish soap and rince throughly under current water
- prime them with an airbrush and a general purpose acrylic primer (I use the one you buy at art craft stores)
- paint them as appropriate
- wash them only with artist's water colors
Ciao
- drybrush as appropriate

I agree with Scoccia on everything but the wash part. I just did some with Turpenoid and oil paint and it worked great, although I did give the tracks about a week to dry before I put any solvent on them. Turpenoid is a turpentine substitute that is gentler that turpentine. Good luck!

I've used turpenoid before with oil paints, but they never seemed to dissolve in the turpenoid. Have you experienced that? The paint seemed to clump up, and settle to the bottom of the cup. That's why I tried the turpentine. I'll keep experimenting i guess.
Thanks!
