hello comrades!

just wanted to ask you armor experts here if there are any existing russian T90s, specifically with the m2004 wedged turret, that uses the old style T72 8 spoked wheels and the T72 tracks? i was wondering if there are any out there? coz if there are, i was thinking of using the existing wheels and tracks from the tamiya kit and save a couple of hundred bucks in the process..

thanks in advance!

Wouldn't that be great? I am hoping the same thing for the same reason, however previous inquiries have only shown the demonstrator vehicles with the cast turret in this configuration (I think they still had the 6 spoke wheels, however). It has been suggested that since there is likely a lot of T-72 track in existence that sooner or later that style track would show up on the T-90s.

Bottom line from all the conversations I have read is that it is all speculative at this time. Go ahead and save the money and then have the nay sayers prove you wrong (it is nearly impossible to prove a negative - i.e. "there were no T-90s like that," so go for it!).

Cheers,

John (who is NOT a expert on much of anything and certainly not T-90s)

I agree with john...build it the way you want. There is no logical reason for that version not to exist, even though there may not be a picture of it. I can assure you that if they send this T-90 variant to Chechnya, it will soon aquire mix-matched roadwheels and there will be the T-72 style tracks put on one at some point. The whole idea is to use up the leftover supply and spare stocks while also implementing flexability with other tracks stocks, ie the T-80 series.

BTW has anyone confirmed that the MiniArm T-90 track set is essentially a T-80 track set? I do not have a copy yet to confirm/deny this rumor.

Dear Jacques!

Concerning the tracks:

I directly asked Igor from MINIARM and he told me that there are minor differences between those "T-80" tracks used on T-90´s and "regular" T-80 tracks.

He said that the T-80 has an internal rubber pillow (whatever that means :-D) and some very little differences.

Here the pics he sended me to confirm this( Only for discussion!)

Hope this helps,

Best regards,

Andy T.

Sounds like we could fudge a bit and use those T-90 tracks for a T-80 if we really wanted to...

Thanks for getting an answer straight from the source, that is very helpfull too.

Oh good stuff, they just removed rubber pads like T-72 road wheels don't need extra couching. couple of hours of chiseling and you can use Masterclub and Modelfixer tracks.

@ john and jaques, thanks for the tips! guess i'll be sticking with the old 8 spoked wheels. but im thinking twice about the tracks.. coz if im not mistaken, they come with the idler wheels and im gonna need a spare set for another conversion im doing...

@ andreas, you've built a T90 before right? kinda saw it posted in the missing-lynx forum.. how's the overall build comrade? what does the miniarm turret come with aside from the metal barrell?

Hey Arkuo14!

The overall build is "easy" and straight forward. Removing the casting blocks was the "only work", the build itself was fun. Everything fits well, the casting is well done and the details are very good.
When you remove the front glacis plate carefully, the new one will fit without putty or/and sanding.

My kit came with a metal barrel and some interior parts, like commanders and gunners vision. Allthough it would have been nice if MINIARM would add the gun breach and a reference CD, like in their T-64 updates.

But for your money you will get an awsome conversion. I think you won´t repent it.

Best regards and enjoy the mighty power of the T-90

Andy T.

Hy again!

Glad I could help/inspire you.

No, you won´t need the AA gun from Tamiya. Miniarm provides you with one. But I would keep tamiyas gun anyway, as it is a very good represantation of the gun as well. Maybe you can use it on an older kit or so.

Talking about the AA:

A member, "Campeador", asked me about the placement of the ammo-box of the AA gun. The instructions are not very clear and it could be tricky. I will post tommorow pics of it to clarify the placement.

Best regards,

Andy T.

Maybe it's the Crown Royal, but I can't see the difference between the two images if the track. Anyone care to point out the obvious to me?
