This is my first attempt at posting a pic of one of my finished (apart from needing some groundwork) models on this forum - so I hope it works!

It's a late war Waffen SS NCO in "giant" 200 mm scale (resin). The funny thing is that I have no idea as to the company that made it, beyond that the kit originated in Russia.

My SWMBO got it for me off eBay (from a German seller) as a present at Christmas 2006, and it just came in a plain cardboard box with a photo stuck to the front - no other identification or writing whatsoever. She also bought me a second figure: same scale, but this time a helmeted Waffen SS NCO in a parka, aiming an MP44 (he's still unstarted in my stash).

Anyway, here he is, and if this figure is familiar to anyone and they can ID the maker company of this kit, I'd be grateful!

Cheers,

- Steve

Hi Steve

How are you? How is this moving going on?

Your figure looks great. As you say it yourself, giant size, so big opportunities to make it wrong.
But yours look good, i really like the camouflage trousers, well done.

Cheers from Luxembourg

Hi Claude!

We're fine thanks! The move to Lux is still on - the only thing stopping us is money, LOL

Glad you like my SS man. The parka on this figure was actually much harder to get right than the camo trousers!!

I've just been looking at your latest project over on dioramas - your ambition (not to mention patience and skill) is definitely to be admired. Awesome!

Later!

Nice work on the figure Steve, sorry cant help you as to who manufactured it although i have seen it before.Nice work on the face it gives him a rugged and tired look from being in the field during the winter.i like the off white colour for the gloves also.
two things that stand out for me that might need looking at are
1.the mp40 magazine appears to be silver?
2.this is just a thought to improve a already nice figure, the boots look to clean and parade ground, could do with weathering to tone them down.
Both above are only suggestions but i have to say nice work.

Hi Steve,

Overall it looks like nice work, although I would like to see more pictures.

Is this an older Kirin kit?

I thought the parkas were issued in feld-grau or camo, though. Were they issued in sheepskin as it seems you've portrayed here? Not a big deal, just curious...

You should definitely enter this figure into HF's January 2008 FOTM contest!

Once again, very nice work - and forgive my question/nitpick

Thanks for the comments, guys.

STEVE - Yep, you're quite right. The MP 40 mag does need darkening back down again. I had problems fitting it through the left had (had to drill through) and its paintwork got a bit messed up in the process. I'll have another look at it.

As regards the boots, I'm going to wait until I give the figure a bit of groundwork before dirtying them up so that I can blend them in better with the colour of what's underfoot.

RUDI - you're right about the parkas. But the colour I've portrayed is also OK (at least according to the main reference I used, i.e. Yoshihiro Terui's "Uniforms of the SS 1938 - 1945").

I'll try and take a couple more shots, though the camera I have isn't the best for taking close-ups of models, and my photography skills are - shall we say - quite rudimentary (but I'm working on it!).

Good stuff, Steve. Just hadn't seen this colour before

Once you've finished off the groundwork don't forget to enter him into the FOTM
