Hi all,
is it possible to find SEP during the first stages of OIF ? I believed only regular A2 were in service with the 3ID.
TIA

Hey Olivier,
Saw your post over on ML.
3rd ID only had M1A1. 4th ID and 1st Cav where the ones who had the A2's.
How early are you refering to, the beginning? 4th ID where the ones who captured Saddam, so you can say that was early.
Gino would be a good canidate to answer this question since he was there at the beginning.

If you are talking about Early OIF as being the invasion, pre Saddam the A2's where still floating off the coast of Turkey since our bribe wasn't high enough.

Thanks for the input. To narrow the scope I would say 2003 is the timeframe concerned by my question.
Pete, thanks for correcting the unit.

Like Andreas says, I don't think A2 where in country in 03'.
I don't want to give you the wrong info, but I think all that was in country in 03' where 3rd ID A1's and Marine A1's.

There were straight A2 and A2 SEPs in country starting April and May '03. 4ID had a mix of standard M1A2 and M1A2 SEPs. They came ashore and up from Kuwait in late April to early May. 3ACR came up from Kuwait in mid May as well with M1A1Ds and straight M1A2s. One of the 3ACR M1A2s is depicted in the Tamiya M1A1/A2 OIF kit. 1st CAV arrived in mid '04 with their M1A2s and M1A2 SEPs.

Check out globalsecurity.org. Type in US Army 4th ID into the search engine and you are able to see which units operated what and when. And the answer is yes, 1-67 AR and 3-67 AR both operated SEP's in Iraq in the very beginning of OIF however it doesn't say what colour scheme they are.

Thanks to all of you.
It'll clear a discussion on a French DG about a dio with a SEP in Bagdad in 2003.

All operational M1A2 and M1A2 SEP tanks (1 CAV, 4 ID, and 3 ACR) are Sand. The only M1A2s in anything other are a few tanks at the Armor School at Ft Knox, KY in 3-color NATO camo. No operational M1A2 or M1A2 SEP tanks are NATO camo.
