hi there everyone a bit of an obscure question here.

1. does anyone know, the composition, usage, effectivness, design rationale, etc. for the turret roof armor found on the t-72 ( 1986-present ( t-90) , t-64B.

I cant seem to find any in depth info on it.
I have heard everything from boron/resin fabric mix, to straight lead ( which I doubt to be true) .

Hoping to hear from some of the experts on this one.

my thanks in advance.

External applique's main purpose is to absorb/reduce neutron streams. It is made of multilayer treated plastic tissue that contains heavy hydrogen, deuterium.

Good day,
Do you mean this one? Put simply,...that's an anitradiation layer which is - IIRC- made of a kind of fiber.

It is a resin applique, somewhat like fiberglass in composition and manufacture, that is applied to shield from radiation, most notably Neutron radiation. As to its exact components, George is the first one I have heard mention them. When it wears, it does so like thick fiberglass.

Sure, S Suvorov "Tank T-64", Tankomaster magazine special edition 2001. Author refers to it as stop-gap solution which makes sense since inner protection was already in series production and later models of T-80 and T-72 received more complex inner lining.

thanks to all. here I thougght it was a boron impregnated fiber/resin mix since boron is a neutron acceptor.
Again thanks to all, btw have you guys seen the t-62M with the outer shielding in the kabul tank yard?
Interesting that it was deployed to afganistan.
Lastly, if anyone has english source matireal on this I would love to have it.
