Hi guys,

This is my build for the winter whitewash campaign. Its the DML 3 in 1 kit and I opted for the Pak 36 option (I can't resist 'up-gunning' kits). It was built OOB and painting and weathering took the ususal steps.

The whitewash was a first for me, acheived by spraying the kit with hairspray, then amediately overspraying with white acyrilic (Tamiya), then after a minute using a wide flat brush soaked in warm water to rub the white paint, that reacts with the hairspray and 'chips' the white coat off.
It looks pretty good, but in future i'll tackle it in sections, as after a while the paint hardens and so it is difficult to get the same look all over.
The figures are also from Dragon, they are the wiking division recon set.

James, I really like the "crowded look of the crew compartment, but the rest of the model is hard to see. Your camera is under exposing because of the white back ground. Try using a black or blue back ground, these will help with the exposure problem and also make the model stand out. More light would help as well. The camo on the figures look great and I like their relaxed appearance.

Yeah I know the pics aren't great, I have the same recurring problem with my pics. Here in Ireland the weather is lousy at this time of year so its either dark or raining when I have the opportuity to photograph my kits. Therefore I end up doing it inside and although my girlfreinds camera is great my shooting area leaves something to be desired. The artificial light doesn't help but your points about the background are appreciated. I will try with a different colour next time, and perhaps a different texture than a fleecy blanket!

You could also (if your camera has it) try manual control of the exposure and lighten it a bit. This will wash out the background slightly but it should allow us to see the interior of the 251.

Looks great though. I've got the 251/9 in the house and I hope it comes out as good!

Looks good James, another option with the pics is some photo editing software i use microsoft "picture it" its simple (and free it came with my pc) and helps refine my pics a lot here's a couple i adjusted by cropping the image down and a one click balance fix for the colour/lighting, its not perfect but i find it helps me out a lot with images.

Ron, good work, I do have an issue with my pics having that yellow tinge due to the artificial light, i'll try some of those tips next time!

Like your build, haven't personally tried the hairspray / whitewash technique, maybe one day. It looks good from here, even with the pic issues... Thanks for sharing your work! Look forward to seeing some more.
