Hey Ken - I know you'll be odering this book - as I will too.
I thought all you TD & U.S. armor buffs would like this.

This looks great; does Amazon carry it? If not, I'll have to open another online shopping account. Got a personal interest here; my wife's grandfather served with a TD unit in the Philippines in WW2. We don't have much in the way of records and he passed away twenty years ago, but I'm researching. I know he was present at the liberation of the Santo Tomas POW camp and would like to gather enough information to make an informed-guess model of the vehicle he drove. This book looks like an invaluable reference. After dropping $70 for Hunnicutt and nearly $60 for Hayward's "Firefly" I shouldn't balk at the price, I guess...

Hi Greg - Do you know what TD Battalion he was attached to ?
As far as the book it is listed through Military.com, but It 's sold
at CIB Media.com - Documentary Military Books & Video's.
They have a huge stock , and many book's on U.S. unit's & division's
military battle & campaign histories. They sell many good book's
I have never even seen before.

No, Ralph, I don't yet know what unit. I do know that the 637th and 640th were present in the Philippine campaign; not sure about the 632nd. They might have stayed in New Guinea. My father-in-law has a unit patch, and said something about the unit forming in California? Or at least training there before embarking for the South Pacific. It seems certain that an M18 or M10 was the vehicle he drove, but beyond that the waters are still murky.

If you love tank destroyers, you're going to love this book. There is a copy in our post library that I have checked out a couple times. It's full of anecdotes and war stories, as well as photos I haven't seen anywhere else. There is also a chart of the different TD units telling where they served and when, attachments, what guns they used, etc. (though I'm not sure of the accuracy). The second half of the book is full of "where are they now?" type entries, sort of like a yearbook. I think this was put together originally to sell to vets as sort of a memory book. There are other similar books on several of the WWII combat divisions published by the same company.
