Can some of you share your techniques in how you would go about bending Kit fenders without melting the fenders or the hull of the tank and distortion of surrounding detail....

Hi Alex,
normally I file them down thinner from the other side, before fitting, that way it makes them easier to bend/distort.

Hi Malcom
How about on the new Dml panther kits which come with them attached to the upper hull. I know the old imperial kit came un attached and it would make easy work...

This may sound silly but bear with me here.
If the fenders are separate, and relatively flat and made of plastic...
Put them in your mouth and chew them up a bit using your molars. Yes it sounds weird but after a dog got into a parts tree once I looked at the fenders of that demolished kit and said....hey...that doesn't look too bad.
just make sure you take appropriate safety precautions.

Yummy Yummy Yummy
I got fender in my tommy...
My friend is using hot oil to soften the plastic fender - it bends easely then and you can form it anyway you want. I don't use this method myself because it's quite easy to damage the rest of part...

What is required is a localised source of heat to soften the plastic and then allow you to distort it without burning yourself or setting fire to your kit !!
I've seen an incense candle/stick used by a japanese modeller. He lit the stick, played it around te area of the mudguard he wished to bend, once softened enough he grasped it with some tweezers and twisted.
I suggested this to a fellow modeller and he tried it with a cigarette roll up and had equal success.
Here is the video to watch showing the technique.

Hope it helps.
