Idea for a new reference on the site

I was thinking about a new reference for the site: "Classic Kit Corner" where we can do a piece on old vintage armor kits. By vintage I mean the old Monogram armor (M3 Grant/Lee, M4 Hedgehog, M4A1 Screamin' Mimi), Revell armor (their old 1/40 scale), Renwal armor (Ontos, Bulldog, Duster), Aurora armor, Bandai armor, Lindberg armor, the stuff that is real old, some one-of-a-kind. Anyone remember building the old Lindberg 1/32 scale M-46 Patton? Motorized with the traversing turret. Mainly the grandfathers of the modern 1/35 scale kits (namely 1/32, 1/35, 1/40 or 1/48).

I got the idea from the Fine Scale Modeler magainze as well as the discussion Scoccia and I had regarding the old Renwal M47 Patton tank.

That's a cool idea. You could have a number of sup-areas to - box art, reference, built kits, garage sale finds etc.

Nice idea Sabot. Hate to say this because I'm right in there - the average age of everyone here would probably give it good support too.

It's ok with me Rob, I'd love to see these old glories brought back to life... I don't know if the M41 boxed by Matchbox is one of the ones you mentioned, I saw a few of them as long with a few M47 always boxed by Matchbox that you told me being from Renwal instead of Monogram as I thought... This are the only chances I think I can easily have here in Italy. I can always try to look for more boxes at car boot markets...

Yes, the Matchbox M41 is the same as the Renwal M41 (also 1980s Revell). I've had all three of them as well as the Renwal M47, but someone offered me a real nice deal (DML T26E3, M26A1and M4A4, pre-Tamiya) for them. The only ones I kept were the Revell M42 and Renwal M42 (same kits but Revell's 1980s boxing deleted the wire springs and crewmen) as well as the Revell and Renwal M-50 Ontos (identical kits except for decals) and the Revell History Makers Self Propelled Howitzer (a really nice kit).

If you ever get either the M41 or M42, you will notice the plastic retainers for the wire springs that were issued with the original kits. These are really neat features for a kit that was issued in the 1960s (the decals for the Renwal kit are dated 1963 and the Revell kit was reissued in 1989). Working suspension on a 40 year old kit is amazing.
