hey ollie, for my first building i went simple, with a ruined look ( so the detail doesnt need to be crazy) i usually do 3 corners and put it on the edge of the base (cutaway look), also use balsa wood for rafters and floor boards and window panes. i suggest you draw on the foam get the shape you want and cut it (to the right scale) making sure the parts fit together. if u want to have the brick exposed with a plaster face take a wood burner or knife and carve mortar lines, then cover whatever isnt brick with spackle or model paste. or instead of foam u can make models with plaster of paris using a home made mold.
ill show u some picks of what ive done in my next post

Ollie, you mean the fancy carved looking circles and ornement looking stuff ?
Those where made from rubber moulds found in a craft store. I just walled them off to the depth I wanted and then filled them with plaster, oops coated the rubber moulds first with a little grease like Vasoline as a release agent, stuff just fell out to be sanded and further shaped..

Ollie, do a search on Michaels Crafts or ACMoore. I bought the moulds about a year ago and haven't seen them again. What you have to do is go to craft stores in your area and just look at everthing and decide " can I use this for modeling ? "

The rubber moulds from Michaels.
A chandelier made from cheap jewelry bits.
Ladder hardware for a lighthouse dome - jewelery connector/fastener bits.
The bracket is a Verlinden item - the oil lamp cheap jewelry bits.
The candleabra on the table - more jewelry bits.
