hi guys!
i came across this T-90 while surfing the web...can anybody please identify what version of the T-90 this is? and if it is a russian one with the wedged turret?
was wondering if this one is a russian one as it doesnt carry the SHTORA system... if it indeed is, i could set aside the SHTORA jammers from the miniarm set for a possible T-84 build...
thanks in advance!

I believe it is either the Indian T-90S or else it is a competition demonstrator. I have seen other photos of this tank but I cannot remember what it was from. There were a bunch of maroon bereted soldiers around it in another photo.
Also, the newest T-90A's for the Russian Army do not have the Shtora fitted and have a ERA block in place of it. This system is based on the m94 welded turret of current production T-90's. Shtora is considered obsolete now...

Well, if you pulled it from this site: http://www.otvaga2004.narod.ru/xlopotov_4/tank_t90sa_1.htm
They identifiy it as a T90CA. Guess that's a T90SA, since the site's in Russian. It's in pretty big letters at the top of the page. It's Russian.
thanks for the link gary!
a T-90SA eh? hmmm.. interesting.. must be a command version or something..

Not command version, just the last release of T-90. With air conditioning system. I think this is the version made for Russian Army too, if they get enough money to buy a few

Russian demo model from the Russia Expo Arms -2006 (of an original Ukrainian design) developed for Libya and Algeria, ca 2005 -2006.
Added air cond., night vision, laser upgrades and the SEMZ (system for electromagnetic protection from mines with the magnetic fuzes) ???
Developed to be more "cost effective" (C.M and V.L. must be spinning in their graves).
LOL.

Source of the info???
1.T-90 is by no means a Ukrainian design.
2. As Gary said before it iS Algerian version of T-90S. There is just no doubt about it Otvaga2004 site host VERY exclusive walk-arounds made by Russian military industry and army insiders. Lydian vehicles may or may not receive same equipment as in T-90SA(lgerian) tanks. Lydians may not go for Essa thermal imagers, but then who knows.
3.EM impulse detonators and suppressors can be installed on other late Soviet/Russian T-XX tanks, night vision, in general meaning, has always been there for T-XX series.

You cannot build a model of a tank with a turret designed back in 1994 by adding welded turret from T-90 originating from 1999. If you really want to do any of T-84 tanks you can attempt to convert Skif's T-80UD turret into welded "all-Ukrainian". Refer to Andreas Todorovic's T-84 build log, it quite straight forward untill you get to the active armor stage.

im sorry, i must have not explained it properly... im planning to build a T-90 AND a T-84... i was wondering if the tank above is a russian variant of the T-90, if so, i could keep the existing SHTORA resin bits from the miniarm set for a future build of a T-84... then i could go ahead and use the miniarm set in building a T-90 without the SHOTRA system... would it be possible if russia has some existing variants of the T-90SA or is the tank in the pic exclusively used in algeria?

Hey George,
Source of the info???
____________________
The source for that info is the Russian website that has those photos.
My reply was quick, rough idea of what they said (but I don't know if whoever wrote the original captions was correct either so...) but it was more of a press release / sales pitch type of caption.
More detail from the article w/ the photos:
It was an Ukrainian arms deal with the Libyans and Algerians to modify the vehicle for desert operations sim. to modifications for India (Ukrainian design / installation of the upgrade package - not design of the whole tank).
The deal fell thru and the Russian Federation took over. The article mentions Putin in Libya in 2006 to watch field tests.
It go on to say what great a job they did w/ the upgades & mod's and how nations in that region need high tech weapon systems because of US expansion in the area.. blah, blah, blah...
It was not a very technical article just basic information. I was just repeating what they said in my post and I should have added that.
If you get a chance read the article w/ the photos, there's even more info then I added here.
Due to the secretive nature of the military and until they invite all Armorama members to all the arms shows & factories we are just going to have to speculate on the details. LOL
