My first hard edge camo. Pianted it using airbrush and maskol, touching up with a brush. One thing I learned, I hate Maskol!

The King Tiger still needs the ambush dot's.

What do you think, what's good, what's bad, what can be better?

Thanks!

Wow...looking good so far Dave, two for the price of one! Lot's of work put into these two, like what you've done so far, should blend well once you're weathering is applied.

How are you going to do the ambush pattern on the KT? Have pondered how to do it with an airbrush, but haven't tried it yet.

Keep us posted on your progress, thanks for sharing your work!

Cheers!

Tim,

Thanks for the thumbs up.

I haven't decided yet how i will do the ambush scheme. Maybe by airbrush, maybe by by brush.

By brush seems easier, by airbrush might look better...

Bob, Kevin, Shaun,

Thanks for the positieve feedback. I thought they looked good, but it's always great to get some confirmation, especially since I'm new at the hobby.

I think feedback is the best way to learn.

Thanks!

Tell me what you think, what can be better, what needs to be changed, done?

Thanks for all the feedback!

Look killer here also.
I guess the final weathering will bring it all together.
Now the questions.
What don't you like about Maskol?
Can't wait to see these done and put up.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the positive feedback, i glad you like it.

I was a bit afraid the ambush scheme would destroy my camo, but it worked out rather good, at least I think so.

Why I hate Maskol, because it gets between everything and I had a very hard time to getting it of the tank. I think there's still some here and there... i used Q-tips, but that only helped a bit. I even broke some stuff trying to get the Maskol of the tank, but in the end it all worked out.

Dave - I think that once you've "washed & weathered" that KT, it will look awesome.

Well done on a camo scheme that's a lot harder to get right than you might think - nice work!

Steve,

Thanks for the thumbs up! The camo scheme wasn't that difficult, Maskol helped a lot! It helped so much that it didn't wan't to come of!

Well, it seems I made some mistakes with my ambush scheme, I'll have to put some brown and green bullets in the other parts, what i did was green bullets in the yellow parts, and yellow bullets in the brown and green parts, where it should be brown and green bullets in the yellow parts and brwon and yellow bullets in the green part, and brown and yellow bullets in the green parts...

I'll do my best to correct those...

Bob, yes I used a brush. I've been wondering for a long time what I should use, brush or airbrush, but on reference photo's I saw that the dots were very irregular, and I thought that with the airbrush the dots may look all the same, so I used a brush.

I'm glad you like it.

Your dots came out well Dave. Agree it should look killer when your weathering is complete.

Nice job mate!

Guys, thanks for all the positive feedback!

I will correct the dots tomorrow (changing the colour of some dots, so all colours are in all parts) and posts some pictures afterwards!

Again, thanks for all the comments, this really makes my day!

For soft edge camo's, Henk advised me to "Mix Dark Yellow (the base colour) with thinner to a 20/80 ratio, and overspray the whole model lightly. One or two passes from about 20 cm's. let dry, repeat if needed. That should blend all the colours together."

Would this technique benefit on the Jagdpanther and King Tiger, since they are hard edge camo?

I do have some questions on the correct colours of the details, like the fire extinguisher, the gun cleaning rods, and other details you might think that have the incorrect colour.

Thanks very much!

Here my latest progress ont he two beasts, they are almost ready for decals and wheatering.

I corrected some dots on the King Tiger, changing the colour of some dots, so that all parts have the colour of the other two parts.

I also did some more detail painting, which is almost finished, painted and added the tracks.

Please leave your comments, so I can correct stuff as needed!

Thanks!

Oh mama, that looks incredible. The camouflage actually looks military, only way I can describe it. You did a good job on it. The two tanks look awesome together.

Should there be dots under the front of the King Tiger, too?

How easy was the maskol to put on, in the design you wanted? I've never used it, and have been wanting to.

And last question, you said you fixed some of the camo with a brush. Can you tell which parts you fixed? Every time I do that, it's blatantly obvious where I used a brush over the airbrush.

Jim, thanks for your comments, I appreciate it!

Yes, there should be dots under the front of the King Tiger, thanks for letting me know, seems I forgot that one spot.

Putting the maskol on was easy, and worked very well! Getting the Maskol of was a different story! The maskol gets between all small cracks, and it's very hard to get it all of. Getting the maskol of took me more time than putting it on and painting the tank.

Where I fixed the camo with a brush, well, sometimes it's visible, sometimes not... If you dillute the paint very much, and correct more than just one spot, you can make it seem as it was supposed to be

I also gave the tanks an overspray of dark yellow, heavily diluted, that also fixed some parts and blended the colours some more.

Dave
