Hello Dave thereīs Dragon Spetznaz set , but its been around for a while now so far from perfect. Thereīs Dragon motorized infantry which is a bit more acceptable & there are other manufacturers too but I canīt think of them off the top of my head.

Hi,
there are one or if i remember right tow sets form modern russian Figures from zvesda. The qualitiy is not current Dragon Standard. They are cheap and you see it on that Figures.
The one from Tank are the best but very expensive as you said. Also there are three Figure sets from Dragon. One is motorised Infrantry, naval Infrantry and Spetnaz. The quality is far away from the new Dragon style. These kits are from the 90īs. And i know of one Figure from Hornet Miniatures. Looks very good. They have also a NVA East Germany Soldier which you could use as Russian. Same equpiment i think. Also ADV has one in its range.
Greetings
Stefan

ICM(the 'new' ICM that is) has some sets as well, although having not built them myself I cannot vouch for the quality.

ICM (The NEW ICM) and Zvezda are fairly good figure kits, but they are limited in what the figures are doing.
DML figures show their age and need to be "rebuilt" to look nice. Think new heads, hands, and equipment. Also, the equipment given in the boxes represent mid-80's gear, not current. Mixing DML and ICM might be a reasonable Idea.
Tank figures are fabulous and they are even coming out with a set of vehicle riders sometime soon, if they are not out now. They are priced high, but all you have to do is assemble and paint them, no other work needed.
But there is not a large amount out there...even modern US figures are more plentiful. My suggestion is to either pay for the expensive TANK figures or else learn to sculpt...really. It is not that hard and it is very satisfying once you get the hand of it. With the availability of heads and hands, it is a LOT easier now.

Hi David,
I never saw them "in person", but Rest-models makes two resin-sets that show interesting poses. Loading a BMP/BMD/BTR with an infantry squad would be a nice setting!

Hi David
You mentioned in your original post you'd go for resin but not Tank as these are too expensive.
I don't know if it's just your area suppliers but here in the UK they are around the same price as most other figures from the likes of Alpine, Verlinden, Warriors, and the other resin producers.

First off, I would peruse the figure forum here. There are a lot of good threads on sculpting figures either totally from scratch or using bits and pieces. Another good source is Shep Paine's book on figures as seen here on Amazon
If you really get into it, then the Bill Horan book, again as shown on Amazon might be up your alley, but it is for the more advanced figure builder.
There is a LOT of information on sculpting figures out there, just as with any other part of the hobby, so just a small look will yield massive results.
