I FINALLY FINISHED SOMETHING!
Well, I finshed my Stryker. Once again, I would like to thank Milo for helping me with his pictures of his first Styker with Slat.
Eventually this will go in a diorama, but for now it is done. Sorry for the bad pictures, I really need to practice with my camera. I will take better ones this weekend for sure.
As for the model, if you all haven't followed my other blogs on this, it is the AFV kit with the Trumpeter Eduard Slat Armor kit. The side armor is scratched built with plain evergreen sheet. The gear is from various sets and the crew is from Hobby Fan.

verry impressed , looks like a "ball" breaker to me that new armor rail stuff,
only thing I noticed, is that the Ammoband on the M60 looks somewhat stiff, AND that's the only thing I could possibly say
I'd be happy ever to achive your skills,
Specially like all the little details, nice nice nice

Nice Job, Pete. I'm sure that armor was a project in itself. Are those brass .50 cal rounds?

Thanks guys for the comments.
Pit,
I'm not to happy with the belt either. It is a resin ammo belt that came with the M240 and I was affraind to bend it more to get that much sag in it.
Rob,
Yup, they are photo etch and not turned brass. I snaged them from the Trumpeter Stryker photo etch set.

Stunning amount of work gone into it Pete, don´t suppose you have drawings of the slat armour ?,because it would certainly save somebody a LOT of trouble if they were to follow your footsteps. I think it looks very convincing indeed.

It's a great model. Nice detail including uniform markings.
I certainly like the look of 'Grumpy' manning the MG.
My minor point, the tires need flattening out or bulged a very small amount to resemble the load bearing...
Good work, well done indeed.

Keith,
Those are the kit rubber tires. If and when I do another one, I will opt for the Pro Art sagged tires or tires from Milo at Real Models.
Mike,
The slat is Eduards photo etch sets. The addtional armor thats on the side of the hull is part of the kit peices and part evergreen plastic. All I did was follow the original kit part as a template.
Jeff,
It took me from October to now to finish it. The kit was sitting here when I came back from deployment.

Pete, like I said mate, a minor point....
Hit the bottoms with a light sanding, OR place it on a base or Dio. with the wheels sunk down in sand or muck.
All I have to do is figure out which aftermarket set has it all, never mind the cost...

Keith,
Go for one of Milo's Real ModelsConversion sets. A couple of them has all the photo etch included plus the vehicle conversion. All you need is the AFV kit to go with it.
Milo is sending me one of his kits to review, if you can wait, take a look at it when I post it to see if you like.

Fantastic job Pete, this is one of those builds where the use of etched parts are fully justified and you've done an amazing job with the slat.
I also like the very convincing stowage all over the hull...can't wait to see the diorama...

I have both AFV Club's versions and also the Trumpeter Stryker with the new stowage aftermarket item. But no updates for the AFV Club ones.
I will follow your lead and purchase the update from Real Model then.
Many thanks..
Impressive work....Jealousy showing though..

Looks good. One of these day I will try my hand at one. The only thing holding back is the slat armor. Much did you pull out and how long did it take? Anyways looks outstanding.

Truly outstanding, and very evident is the amount of craftsmanship put into this build. The details and stowage goodies are superb. Thanks for sharing,

Very nice Pete. I like the discoloration of the exhaust deflector. Is that a CIP on the lower front portion of the hull? Does that come in the slat kit?
Nice choice of including the traffic cones; pretty standard these days.
You might want to tone down the fuzz on the rope. I usually put diluted white glue over thread and other fuzzy items like this to eliminate the fuzz.

Thanks Bob for that tip on the rope, I wouldn't have even thought og that. I will remember that next time, unfortunately it has a coat of clear flat over it so know i have to pick each fuzzy off with my tweezers. I have to still pick out a lot of fuzz that got cought underneath the flat coat.
As for the front CIP, it's not photo etch. That was made from two off the Hummer hood CIP's that come in the Tamiya Modern Accessory kit. Or maybe it was 3 of them, I can't remember how many, but they did come from that accessory kit. I was debating about making it out of some thin brass or something like that so I can bend it up and all that, but i decided to go the easy way.

Awesome job. Just....awesome.
My only suggestion has nothing to do with your wonderful model. When taking your pictures I may be wrong but are you using a flash? If so you may find that your pictures look better without using one. I found my pictures looked better without using the flash.
And the weathering looks great. The figures too.

Having put the slat armor on my Challenger 2 and Warrior, I am now itching to tackle this project...
I will take your advice and obtain the other wheel sets.
Many thanks.
Oh for interest sake, this is what happens when a Stryker passes by a 500lb car bomb. Yes the crew survived except for minor cuts and ringing in their ears. It was also able to move under it's own power, after being turned right side up.
Another Dio. project perhaps?
Keef.
