I covered this in my overview of the ICM releases for 2008

I REALLY hope they include the piano. Not sure about how useful Luftwaffe officers in mess dress (or young ladies in ball gowns) would be for dioramas. Well-dressed refugees perhaps?

Maybe someone will do a REAL Gotterdamenung dio? Traces of Fellini in 1/35th scale?

Well, the Germans did try to keep up an as normal life as possible for as long as possible, with the cinemas and theaters open until they were bombed. There are photos of Germans queing in the rubble to go to see a show. Mind you, some of that would have been propaganda of course.
But the idea of some people, with the imminent doom of the Russians overrunning Berlin, losing all sense of reality and putting on a 'final dance', is not beyond the realms of possibility.
Hmm, these figures, inside the EAST PRUSSIAN CITY BUILDING from MiniArt, with some German Volksturm desperately trying to fight off a JSII that is crawling over the rubble...

And if the piano is not included, Plusmodel do some really nice Gramophones...

If the grand piano is included, I can see a few "Spielen Sie es wieder Sams'" showing up on tables.

How come the Red Army only gets accordion players? Answer me that.

This would be an awsome subject to build a diorama around, a huge ball room with VP's piano in the corner. I could see blockhous doing an indoor building

I'd like to see some refugees too.

Bit easier to carry one around on a T34?

Custom Dioramics does an upright piano. Tuba comes with it.

So that's why the Germans were exploring such large tanks as the E-100, to get a string quartet on the back. Or maybe just one Wagnerian-sized opera singer

Is that because you want them to have something else or that you want somebody else to have an accordion player.

If it's the later here's a couple of Germans

1:35 German Soldier playing an accordion(Reference #GSF023)
Ex-SMA023

1:35 German Tanker playing an Accordian(Reference #GSF039)
Ex-SMA039

From Scale Link

If it's Russians with something different you have a harmonica

1:35 Russian Soldier playing a Harmonica(Reference #GSF034)

and a mandolin

1:35 Russian Soldier play

http://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/World_War_Two__SMA__1_35_Figures.html

Not the most slick of web sites but certainly worth the effort of navigating through it in my opinion.

Look, if you want authentic German music, forget string quartets.... Think Oompa, and Lederhosen...

Hi

Slightly back on track I'd just like to add how under rated I think the ICM figures are.

I've just got the Russian Tank Crew figures and the moulding detail on them is very good, nice and crisp. Good facial detail etc.

I have to say in some respects better than the recent Miniart figures I brought.

They don't match the imagination or animation of Miniart or Masterbox but they are not that bad.

The range is of course limited, and in some cases not as good value for money, mine has only three figures where as most these days include four or more.

I can see why Tamiya used some of them to combine with their vehicles etc.

I also believe that some have been reboxed by other companies, not just Tamiya. Revell I believe has some connection with the figures they have on offer.

Worth looking at as an alternative in my opinion.

Alan

Thanks Alan - it's rapidly degenerating into a 'What musical group can I add to the cupola of my Panther?' type thread...

I completely agree - they don't do as much as they could do, but, what there is is getting better with each new release...

Not having seen the actual figure set, and only going off of the box art, if these two are actually supposed to be dancing, the female figure needs a lot of work. The guy probably does, too, but it's hard to tell.

Now, I'm not a competitive ballroom dancer, and I don't dance Internation Standard, but I do know my way aound the dance floor. The dance position for American Standard Smooth & International Standard Smooth isn't all that different. If we assume that they are in Germany in 1939 or 1940 (as the box says), and they're at an Officers Ball; they'd probably be Waltzing (or Vienesse Waltzing). I'm not saying that those are the only dances that they'd be doing, but somehow I don't thing they'd be doing the Cha-Cha or Mombo (but maybe). The position that the dancers are in is sort of a mix among Waltz, Argentine Tango, and I don't know what.

I have a lesson later this week, and I'll ask my instructor (who is from Russia), if the dance position for social dancing in Europe in the 1940s was diferent that today. I have a feeling that it isn't, but I'll ask. I mean, he doesn't even have his hand on her shoulder blade! How is he supposed to lead?

Now, all that rant aside about ballroom, on the other hand they could be doing some sort of traditional German dance (not unlikely). It's just hard to tell. Any German dancers out there who can chime in on this?

The box also says that the kit contains (6) figures: (2) Luftwaffe officers & (4) civilians.

Thank you Jim, I'm glad to see that exesive rivet counting is not limited to inanimate plastic models...
Let's hope that ICM get thi one right, because I have already worked out the diorama that they go in.
4 civilians.. perhaps the band? or a cocktailwaiter?

You've misread the situation. Look at her left hand and the expression on his face, he's drunk and trying to drag her out on the dance floor. She's pushing him away and saying "I can't dance with you, I'm Goering's mistress"

Hopefully if these models ever get entered in a competition the judges from Strictly come dancing won't be judging them

Hmmm, very interesting release...could it be that ICM may now be following MB Ltd.'s lead and starting to produce the more obscure (and highly desired) types of releases that have been missing in the 1:35 scale figure/dio range (in plastic)?....will be something to follow and watch, for sure!

Would go well with a Berlin bunker orgy set in a diorama. Ridiculous as it sounds a friend of mine who is into figure painting swears that a roman orgy set exists as well as a pirate rape & pillage party. I´m a bit sceptical myself.

I'm afraid I have to agree with that. He appear more to be trying to convince her of her overwhelming desire to dance, and she certainly appears to be pushing the slob away.

I'll certainly be looking forward this this one:

Should be a blast tuning it. Then playing "As Time Goes By" between shows.

While we are at it, hopefully they include a "Saint Paulie's Girl", complete with big overflowing mugs.
